Cleveland’s second baseman, Cesar Hernandez, has been traded inside the division. The Chicago White Sox are sending LHP Konnor Pilkington back to the Indians in return for the infielder. Hernandez is currently on a $5 million, one-year deal with a team option in 2022.
ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reported the news on Thursday morning via Twitter.
The Chicago White Sox are finalizing a deal to acquire second baseman Cesar Hernandez from Cleveland, sources tell ESPN.
White Sox have long been in the market for a second baseman. And now they get one in the 31-year-old Hernandez, who is hitting .231/.307/.431 with 18 homers.

Hernandez was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, playing in their system from 2013-2019. He spent 2020 until today with Cleveland. He is now 31-years-old, hitting .231 in 2021. His lifetime batting average sits at an impressive .272.
This season, Hernandez has slugged 18 homers, already a season high for his career past the halfway point of the season. He also has almost tied his season high in strikeouts, at 90. His 47 RBI in 2021 are already the second-best of his veteran career.
Considering the White Sox’s injuries, picking up a solid bat at an infielder position is invaluable toward their push to win the AL Central. Grabbing him from a division rival is even more impressive.
