After sweeping the Cardinals in the NLCS, the Washington Nationals are now waiting to see who they will face in the 2019 World Series. The Yankees and Astros will be playing game 5 tonight. Here is a preview of game 5 of the 2019 ALCS between the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros:
The game is scheduled for Friday, October 18 at 7:08 PM EST on FS1 in the Bronx.
Probable Pitchers
Justin Verlander (21-6, 2.58 ERA) vs. James Paxton (15-6, 3.82 ERA)
Players to Watch for
Houston Astros: Jose Altuve
After battling some injuries, Altuve actually finished the 2019 regular season with an efficient line of .298/.353/.550. He also hit a career high in home runs with 31 through just 124 games. Another upside for Altuve is his career numbers against the opposing starter James Paxton. Including the Postseason, Altuve hits .344/.432/.563 against Paxton through 37 plate appearances. This could help Houston’s second basemen continue to hit well in game 5.
New York Yankees: Gleybar Torres
Gleyber Torres hit a whopping .417/.462/.917 with an OPS of 1.378 in the Division Series against the Minnesota Twins. He’s been one of the best hitters in the whole league this year as he finished the regular season with 38 long balls. He will have a tough task against Houston’s Justin Verlander in game 5. However, the 22-year-old has hit .417/.500/1.000 with a 1.500 OPS in the first three games of this series. Look for the youngster to do some damage at the plate in what is scheduled to be the last game in the Bronx of the 2019 ALCS.
