During their developer update, the Legends of Runeterra team laid out their roadmap not only for the next three months but also for the foreseeable future. In this, they announced that new cards and a new region would be coming to Legends of Runeterra in August. While they did not specify which region it would be, it seems likely that they will follow how they did the last expansion and announce it sometime near the end of July or early August. This will most likely be a couple weeks before it officially launches as they will probably have one new champ for each region along with adding the champions for the new region.
“We’ve said before that each expansion will add a new region, plus more cards and champions for existing regions. But we’ve also been looking at ways to make getting that content even more impactful, and keep the meta evolving as new cards enter the mix.”- Riot GAmes Dev Team
They have also announced when and how they will be releasing new content.
- Starting in August, they will introduce new cards every 2 months.
- Every 6 months, there will be a new region.
- Each new region will be the focus for 3 content releases.
This means that starting in August, Legends of Runeterra fans can expect to get a new region every February and August until they run out of regions or potentially end up making up their own. Also, that new cards will be added regularly meaning the meta will be shifting pretty consistently. Lastly, there are plenty of champions for them to add, so expect new champions with the new cards being released every couple of months.
For the Legends of Runeterra community, this allows them to have clarity for essentially the next couple of years. There are 13 regions currently in the League of Legends world and Legends of Runeterra has eight of them in the game so far. With Piltover and Zaun counting as one for Legends of Runeterra but not League of Legends lore as a whole, it will be interesting to see if they ever split the two. Fans will know when to expect new aspects of the game and also when ranked resets and decks will be hitting. For the competitive community, this is especially very nice.
