With the second day of action from the play-ins closed out, Cloud9 remain as the only undefeated team in Worlds Group B. Should Cloud9 emerge from the play-ins, they will end up in either Group A or Group C, depending on whether Hanwha makes it out of play-ins or not.
Cloud9 vs Beyond Gaming
The first match of the day featured the team that won one game in day one and the team that lost one game in day one. Two of the favorites to emerge from the play-ins in group B, the match length doesn’t tell the full story. Despite the match lasting 38 minutes, Cloud9 looked and played like the better team for most of the game, ending with 10 extra kills and 11 towers to 3. Cloud9 moved up to tie with Galatasaray, while Beyond would tie with Unicorns in last place.
Detonation FocusMe vs Galatasaray
The second match of the day featured Galatasaray, who won both day 1 matches, and DFM, a team that went 1:1 in day 1. Despite the hype that the TCL representatives managed to get due to a good performance in day 1, they got slaughtered in their first match of the second day. With Galatasaray only getting two kills in the entire match, with both of them ending up on their support, to say this match went to hell in a handbasket for Galatasaray fans would be an understatement.
Beyond Gaming vs Unicorns of Love
With both teams desperate for a win, the beloved Unicorns of Love faced Beyond Gaming. Despite the team’s amazing campaign in 2020, the Unicorns of Love seem like they are unable to maintain the same energy in 2021. Beyond gaming and Doggo specifically wrapped up the game in 25 minutes. In said 25 minutes, Doggo managed an impressive 8/0/4 performance on Ezreal. Beyond Gaming took 9 towers to UoL’s 1, giving them another shot at making it out of the play-ins.
Cloud9 vs Galatasaray
The final match of the day had Cloud9 face off against Galatasaray. Much like both teams’ previous matches in the day, this one was fairly one-sided. Once again, it was the same team that stomped earlier that stomped again, with Cloud9 taking a commanding victory over the TLC representatives. Blaber ran rings around Mojito, and Cloud9 locked themselves, as well as DFM in the next round of play-ins. Galatasaray also made it in, due to their good performance in day 1.
What this means for tomorrow
The first match of the day features Detonation FocusMe vs Beyond Gaming. This match will decide how the rest of the day will go. Should DFM win, they will lock themselves as at least the second-placed team, forcing C9 to beat UoL if they want to avoid a tiebreaker. This would also mean that Beyond Gaming would have to hope for a C9 win to avoid playing a tiebreaker with Unicorns of Love.
However, should Beyond Gaming win, this would force a 3-way tie between Beyond, Galatasaray and DFM. All three teams would finish at 2:2, meaning that 2 tiebreakers would be needed to wrap up Worlds group B. This would also lock Cloud9 in first and eliminate the Unicorns of Love.
