One of the more controversial moves Riot Games has ever made was adding their Vanguard system. This came with VALORANT and many worried that it would allow for Riot Games to spy on people and get sensitive information. While many have moved passed this, it has kept some people from playing the game. Not it has been announced that the Vanguard anti-cheat system will be coming to League of Legends as well.

Vanguard and League of Legends
The addition of Vanguard to League of Legends is definitely going to be a battle. League of Legends players are not always the best with change and this system getting added is a major change.
Let’s look at what it does first and then we will discuss how it will affect players.
What is Vanguard for League of Legends?
This anti-cheat will be added to your computer when logging on once it has launched. You will be able to decline installing it but, that will mean that you can no longer play the game. That is correct, without Vanguard, you will not be able to play League of Legends.
This comes after someone performed a major hack of League of Legends files and while Vanguard has probably been discussed for some time, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
What it will do is track a lot of what is on your computer, including your files, to make sure you are not cheating. So this means that any scripts or fake skins that you have installed will be gone. People who try to go into the PBE to datamine will also likely be pushed out.
How does this Affect You?
For many, this will not mean all that much. Many VALORANT players have accepted it and moved on. League of Legends players will have to do the same, although this may hurt the player base initially. How much so is unknown but people are not very trusting of major companies like Riot Games to begin with.
In reality, there is not much that you can do if you want to play the game. It does not seem as though Riot Games of the League of Legends team are using this in any bad way. They have repeatedly said this and did so again with the official announcement.
Ultimately, it will be up to people to decide whether they want to take Riot’s word on this one or lose access to playing one of their favorite games.
