After four days of action-packed games, TOP Esports took down FunPlus Phoenix and won the Mid Season Cup. The game ended 3:1 in favor of TOP Esports. After falling just short in the LPL grand-finals, TOP have redeemed themselves and are the champions. Here’s how they did it.
TOP Esports and Group A
With the way the cup worked, with teams being group according to their seed in the Spring split, TOP represented the LPL second seed, with Gen.G being the second seed in group B. Their first match was against Damwon, and TOP won with a commanding victory. In an LPL showdown and preview of the finals, TOP clashed against FPX, where FPX found themselves victorious. The last match was against T1, where whoever lost would go home. Despite T1 starting the game off well, in the end, it was TOP Esports that won the match. T1 left the tournament early, while TOP moved on as the second seed of group A.Â
First Playoff Match
As the second-placed team of group A, TOP Esports faced off against the first-place team from Group B. To the surprise of many fans, it was Gen.G that made it out group B as the first placed seed. However, after taking down both T1 and Damwon Gaming in group A, TOP seemed ready to face the LCK teams. And so, the last remaining LCK representative in the Mid Season Cup fell to TOP Esports. TOP, on the other hand, booked their ticket to their second finals appearance in a row.Â
The Grand Finals
Facing off against fellow LPL team, TOP started the finals off on the right foot. In the blind pick-and-draft, Knight got his priority Syndra and Karsa got his Lee Sin. Despite Knight once again putting on a masterclass performance on Syndra, it was Karsa’s Lee Sin that won MVP. In game two, FPX brought it back, with DoinB on his signature Galio. However, in games 3 and 4, it was all the Karsa and Yuyanjia show, as TOP finally won their first tournament.
