Week 3 of the LPL 2022 Summer Split is going to start soon. While there have only been a week and three days of matches, only four teams remain undefeated. JD Gaming, LNG, RNG and Victory Five are the four remaining teams. This goes to show how competitive the LPL has become, as a region. Either way, here are the matches that will wrap up week 2, and the first five days of action from week 3.
LPL 2022 Spring Split Week 2: Day 6
Match 1: LGD vs Victory Five
Victory Five and LGD will start off Saturday’s action. Victory Five had a fairly easy series against ThunderTalk Gaming, while LGD had a rough one against JD Gaming. While Rookie’s status is currently unknown, it is unlikely that will make much of a difference. With or without Dream, Victory Five have enough firepower to dominate LGD, pound for pound, in each lane. This team did finish in third last split for a reason, after all.
Meanwhile, LGD had a better start then many could hope. While they did lose to JD Gaming, they took a game off of them, courtesy of a solid performance from Fearness. This is a net positive for the side of LGD, so there is a silver lining. However, this next series should be just as hard as the first one for them. Once again, the objective here is to not get stomped.
Prediction: Victory Five
Match 2: Top Esports vs Invictus Gaming
The second match of the day should be an interesting one. Top Esports had a rough start to their split, suffering a loss to JDG, in a series full of one-sided matches. However, in their second match against WE, they stomped their opponents. So Top Esports seem to be back as one of the most unpredictable teams in the LPL. However, with the current meta, Top Esports have an incredible weapon which is Wayward. With top lane carries being the meta, Wayward wants to continue his spring performance.
Meanwhile, speaking of carry top laners, Zika is another amazing rookie to keep an eye one. While Invictus did lose out in their series against Weibo Gaming, they managed to bounce back well against Funplus Phoenix. Their entire top side looked dominant, and should they continue to perform at that level, IG could easily make a run for playoffs.
Prediction: Top Esports
Match 3: Team World Elite vs Weibo Gaming
The third and final match of the day features WE and WBG. Weibo Gaming had a solid start to their split against Invictus Gaming, but they faltered in their second series against EDG. While it shouldn’t be alarming, Weibo Gaming lost to EDG with their full roster, as TheShy did play in both of their series. WBG still seem like the same team that they were in spring. Their individual strength is one of the greatest in the LPL, but they seem to have no cohesion as a team. WBG need to improve this, if they want to make it to Worlds.
Meanwhile, Team World Elite had a rough series against Top Esports. Even if it was expected, it was hard to take many positives from their series. With Smlz not starting with the roster, presumably due to the lockdown in Shaanxi, WE are missing one of their key players. While it is unknown if he will start in this series, it shouldn’t make much of a difference. The best that WE can do is try and hope to steal a game away, much like IG did last week.
Prediction: Weibo Gaming
LPL 2022 Spring Split Week 2: Day 7
Match 1: Anyone’s Legend vs Bilibili Gaming
Sunday’s first match should be a fairly interesting one. Anyone’s Legend had a solid start to their split, taking down Rare Atom in a very dominant fashion. However, they failed to impress against LNG. However, this was already an overperformance from their end, as they managed to already take a series off a team. Should they continue to perform at the same level that they did against RA, they will fight to make playoffs. However, should they play like they did against LNG, it could be another long split for AL fans.
Meanwhile, BLG didn’t have the start that was expected of them. After a rough loss against LNG, where could have easily won that series 2:0, they had another bumpy series against Ultra Prime. While a loss to LNG is an understandable one, struggling against a team that may or may not make playoffs is a worrying trend. And Anyone’s Legend fits right in with that mold as well. They could try to punch above their weight, and make BLG’s life difficult from the start.
Prediction: Bilibili Gaming
Match 2: LNG vs ThunderTalk Gaming
The final series of week two should be one of the most one-sided ones. ThunderTalk Gaming had a rough start to their split, with a crushing loss to Victory Five, who were missing Rookie. TT have chosen to reboot their team for the summer split, and while this should allow their team to grow in the future, it doesn’t do them much good in the present. With the team still building their main roster and testing things out, they have a long road ahead of them if they want to take down LNG.
Meanwhile, LNG have started their split firing on all cylinders once again. After taking down Bilibili Gaming, a team that many had finishing at the top, they dominated Anyone’s Legends. LNG are looking to once again dominate the start of the split, much like they did in spring. However, they need to keep control of their split. Last spring, they were the last team to fall. However, once they fell, they had a serious fall from grace, dropping out of the top four. They need to make sure they avoid this from happening again.
Prediction: LNG
LPL 2022 Spring Split Week 3: Day 1
Match 1: OMG vs JD Gaming
The first match of the LPL 2022 week 3 features OMG and JDG. OMG had a horrible start to their split, losing to both Rare Atom and Ultra Prime. Not only does that mean that they are 0:2, they lost to two teams that are competing with them for a playoff spot. And now, to add insult to injury, they are facing JDG, and have a real chance of starting their split off 0:3. For a team that is wanting to make playoffs, that is far from the optimal start, and OMG will need to vastly improve, if they want to make it.
Meanwhile, JDG have had an amazing start to their split. After making an amazing run last split, JDG have started this split off 3:0, and quite possibly 4:0. With wins over Top Esports, LGD and more importantly over EDG, JDG are looking like the number one team in the LPL right now. While it may only be the start of the split, starting the split off well is key, especially in the LPL. All that’s left is if JDG can maintain control of the top of the league.
Prediction: JDG
Match 2: Ultra Prime vs Rare Atom
The second match of the day is a very interesting one. Both of these teams are fighting for a spot in playoffs. Rare Atom had a slow start, getting stomped by Ultra Prime. But they managed to bounce back and take down OMG. Rare Atom are looking to make moves and repeat their performance from the spring split and return to playoffs. Strive is putting on unbelievable performances, and should he keep it up, RA have a real chance of making playoffs.
Meanwhile, Ultra Prime have had an impressive start to their split. They stomped out OMG in their first series, with OMG being one of their direct rivals in the race for playoffs. And while they did lose to BLG, they managed to keep it competitive. Ultra Prime has demonstrated so far this split that they could well make playoffs. Now they just need to be consistent about it.
Prediction: Ultra Prime
LPL 2022 Spring Split Week 3: Day 2
Match 1: Victory Five vs Funplus Phoenix
Tuesday’s first match features FPX and V5. FPX have been having one of their strangest splits so far. Currently 0:3, they’ve faced RNG, EDG and IG, a team that is favored to win everything, a upper class team and a team likely to struggle to make playoffs. Against the two teams that are almost certain to make playoffs, they put up an amazing fight, but got slaughtered by Invictus Gaming. So, there is a chance that this series against Victory Five could be much closer than the teams might suggest.
Meanwhile, Victory Five should be enjoying their easier schedule at the start of the split. After facing ThunderTalk Gaming and LGD, FPX should be a bigger challenge, but still aren’t exactly a top playoff team. However, this means that V5 have to confirm their favoritism in these matches and win. If they were to start dropping matches early on in the split against easier opponents, how are they going to take on the bigger teams when the time comes?
Prediction: Victory Five
Match 2: Royal Never Give Up vs Weibo Gaming
The second match of day 2 of week 3 of the LPL 2022 will feature RNG and Weibo Gaming. RNG had a positive start to the split, defeating FPX 2:1. While this wasn’t the convincing win that many wanted to see from the current MSI champions, it was better than the losing streak they started last summer off with. RNG tend to be a team that falls off during the summer, so the pressure is on them even more than before. Certainly fans will not be content if this summer ends up playing out just like last summer.
Meanwhile, Weibo Gaming have a perfect opponent to try to solve their problems against. RNG are still trying to integrate their new top laner, and the team tends to enter a lull state post MSI. Weibo are known as one of the heaviest punishers of mistakes in the LPL, and it is very likely that RNG will commit a couple of those. All that is left is for Weibo to join together as a team and try to force those errors, instead of waiting for them to happen.
Prediction: RNG
LPL 2022 Spring Split Week 3: Day 3
Match 1: Invictus Gaming vs EDG
Week 3, Day 3 of the LPL Summer Split will be the date of a showdown between two of the most historic orgs in the LPL. Invictus Gaming and EDG are two of the oldest and biggest names in Chinese league of legends, being two of the three LPL representatives to have ever won worlds. While Invictus Gaming is far away from being at their prime form, they have had a solid performance so far this summer, and have already upset a team that was supposed to be slightly above them in the standings.
Meanwhile, EDG are the current defending Worlds champions. They need to show that they are still worthy of the title of World champions. After struggling in spring, finishing outside of the top six, summer is the chance for EDG’s revenge. As it currently stands, EDG wouldn’t even be going to a regional final, let alone making it back to Worlds. They need to show that they are still the best that the LPL has to offer.
Prediction: EDG
Match 2: Top Esports vs Bilibili Gaming
The second match of the day feature two of the most volatile teams in the LPL. Top Esports and BLG both struggle to consistently perform at the level that is expected of them. Top are still having problems around the bot lane, where JackeyLove continues to have high highs and low lows. After an abysmal performance against JDG in their first series, he looked phenomenal against Anyone’s Legend. Which JackeyLove plays this match will be the deciding fact to who wins it all.
Speaking of inconsistent players, Icon is back in the LPL. While it is unknown if he will play over Fofo, it is very likely that he will see some play time. If BLG simply need a mid laner that can play every champion in the game and that will add a voice of experience to the roster, than Icon could be the perfect addition. However, having doubts about his consistency and performance level are still valid. Time will tell if this was the correct move for BLG.
Prediction: Top Esports
LPL 2022 Spring Split Week 3: Day 4
Match 1: Anyone’s Legend vs LGD
Thursday’s first match should be a very fun one to watch. Neither Anyone’s Legend nor LGD are favourites to do much this split, so this match could end up not mattering much. However, because of how early on in the split it is, both teams still have a good shot at making playoffs. This means that both teams will go all out and want to pull all the stops to pick up the win. Expect both of these teams to play their hearts out and for shenanigans to ensue.
Anyone’s Legend already picked up their first win of the split. They beat Rare Atom in a clean, 2:0 series. And while they got smashed by LNG, that was closer to the expected result. Meanwhile, LGD are yet to pick up a win, but they have played well. They played an honest game against JD Gaming, a team that seems to be the best team in the LPL. Expect this one to be a close one.
Prediction: Anyone’s Legend
Match 2: ThunderTalk Gaming vs Team World Elite
Following suit of the first match, the second match of the day features another two teams that are expected to end outside of the playoff zone. To further this point, there is a very large chance that both of these teams will play this series with no wins to their names. ThunderTalk made some big changes to their roster, and WE is the perfect opponent to test these changes out. While teams like V5 and LNG are much too tall an order for the young TT roster, WE is a much more honest test.
Meanwhile, this is also a great test for WE. A team that might fight for a spot in playoffs, a good performance against TT would be a great start for their campaign. After facing teams like Top Esports and Weibo Gaming, TT is the perfect team to test how good this WE team can be. A convincing win here could be what they need to get their split rolling.
Prediction: Team World Elite
LPL 2022 Spring Split Week 3: Day 5
Match 1: OMG vs LNG
Friday’s first match should be a fairly one sided affair. LNG are, at the time of this articles release, one of the undefeated teams in the LPL. After a rough ending to their Spring Split, LNG look ready to run it back this summer but live up to the expectations surrounding their team. Doinb in particular seems to have really stepped it up and seems to have finally fit in with LNG’s game ideology. Right now, it seems like LNG could go toe-to-toe with almost any of the best teams in the LPL.
Meanwhile, OMG will likely come into this series without a single match win. For a team that wants to make playoffs, starting the split off 0 and 4 is not the way to go. To make matters worse, as their opponents are LNG, who have been performing, an 0 and 5 start is looking like a real possibility. After barely making their way into playoffs last summer, OMG fell just short this spring. They need to step it up, or they could end up missing out again.
Prediction: LNG
Match 2: JD Gaming vs Ultra Prime
The final match of today’s article features JDG and Ultra Prime. JDG are looking like the best team in the LPL right now, but their bot lane in particular have been the difference makers. Hope and Missing have been stellar this year so far, and have really become one of the best bot lanes in a league filled to the brim with star bot lanes. That said, JDG’s top side of the map have been really performing this split as well. 369 looks back in the best form of his career, and Yagao seems to age like a fine wine.
On the other side of the rift, Ultra Prime are a team that will want to prove that they are better than many are predicting them to be. With many saying tenth place for them, that means making playoffs and not much else other than that. Ultra Prime will want to show that they are here to make some noise and cause problems on purpose. If they manage to have consistent performances this split, they well could end up being a dark horse this summer.
Prediction: JDG
And that concludes the preview of week 2, as well as the first five days of week 3 Be sure to come back next time, to read about the last matches of Week 3 as well as the first few matches of Week 4.
