10. FlyQuest (Last Week: 9)
It is almost incomprehensible that FlyQuest are here. There is no world where they should be, yet they are. It will take a herculean effort from this squad to make it anywhere near the top of the LCS at this point. Instead, they will need to take it one game at a time and try to make their way to a comfortable playoff spot. Time is officially up for this team, they need to win at least two games next week or things will be looking dire.
9. Immortals (Last Week: 6)
As expected, Immortals are playing better than they did last split. The problem is that they just do not have the firepower to keep up. Solo, Kenvi and Treatz have been okay and Tactical has good games but he and Bolulu have to be better for this team to go anywhere. There are only two teams that don’t make playoffs and Immortals are looking like one of them as of now.
8. 100 Thieves (Last Week: 8)
Even after taking down FlyQuest in week one it is crazy to say that 100 Thieves wins are completely lackluster. Right now they have taken down the aforementioned and Immortals and that is it. Quid did not perform well but hopefully, the first-week jitters are gone or at least lessened. Otherwise, 100 Thieves are another team that many expected to play well that could be heading into the second half of the season just trying to not miss playoffs.
7. Dignitas (Last Week: 8)
Alright, it is time to apologize to Rich. Sure it is only two weeks in but he is playing extremely well and has been the wild card to put this team into contention. It is still hard to tell if this team is actually good. But one more week of solid games may just make the author of this piece a believer.
6. NRG (Last Week: 9)
Friday’s game showed what this team should be. Cloud9 did not play well but everyone on NRG had a solid game. This is their style and another week or two should solidify their positioning as they go for the top of the LCS. They likely won’t win the LCS but they absolutely can be in contention when playing at their best.
5. TSM (Last Week: 6)
Even TSM fans would say that this is the dream scenario for the team. They are continuing to play well and it really feels like Chime in particular is playing extremely well. A lot of the future of this team will depend on what they do in the mid-lane. Insanity is tied for third amongst LCS mid laners in kills and while he isn’t perfect, why ruin a good thing? Unless TSM are confident that Ruby will be better, they need to keep Insanity in.
4. Team Liquid (Last Week: 3)
A loss to Dignitas in any other Split would be a major concern. It might be for this one as well, but more because Team Liquid should be challenging for an LCS title. The team certainly started to fall back into old habits, which is bad in case that isn’t clear. They have to remember what the first week looked like and go back to playing teamfights cleaner and let their natural talent dominate lanes.
3. Golden Guardians (Last Week: 7)
They are back. It was a bit of an easier week but everyone was reminded why this squad went to MSI. River and Gori played with a lot of confidence and while Stixxay isn’t amazing he does have amazing games. This team has all the pieces to make another run, not it is time to finish the first half of the LCS Summer Split strong.
2. Evil Geniuses (Last Week: 5)
Uh oh, Evil Geniuses are even stronger than many thought they might be. They are second in the LCS in kills, are last in deaths and that equals a 2.06 KD which is the best in the LCS by .42. EG will come back to down to Earth at some point. Once that happens it will fall on jojo to carry them through the rough patch. Regardless of whenever that is, he is back in a major way and this team is looking very strong to start the Split.
1. Cloud9 (Last Week: 1)
One loss is no going to knock C9 off as the king of the castle. For some reason the trio of Dhokla, Contractz and Palafox have Cloud9’s number. They have beaten them more than any team in the past few Splits. Cloud9 will be fine as EMENES really starts to get going. It will be up to Fudge to handle the attention he will continue to get with it being tough for teams to focus mid or bot.
