As teams head into the Lunar New Year’s break and get closer to the midway point of the season, players had one more chance to make a good initial impression on fans. So who stepped up? Who made huge plays this week? Let’s find out in this week’s OP 5. As always, if you missed last week’s OP 5, check it out here.

Top: Choi “Sword” Sung-won (Griffin)

After many solid games from Sword, he has finally made it onto the OP 5 as the OP top laner of the week. While most of his games were on Sion, he did show the rest of the region that they should begin considering the need to take Sion away from him. With the Sion, Sword was nearly unkillable on his way to even picking up a player of the game honor in game 1 against SK Telecom T1. While it will be important for Sword to eventually show his ability on other champions, he’ll be able to enjoy his time on Sion for the time being and a spot in this week’s OP 5.

Jungle: Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan (Kingzone DragonX)

While the answer of whether Kingzone is a good team or not has yet to be answered, Cuzz has slowly shown that he is a fairly good jungler. In Kingzone’s victories, Cuzz has been a large playmaker for the team as he managed to pick up a player of the game for his spectacular play on Camille against DAMWON Gaming.

While Cuzz will have some tough challenges ahead of him after the New Year break, with the likes of SK Telecom T1’s Kim “Clid” Tae-min waiting, he can enjoy the honor of OP jungler for Week 3 for the time being.

Mid: Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon (Griffin)

While Chovy finally died this week, he was still able to reach an insane KDA of 115. Despite this, he continues to have an inhuman KDA of 42.67 as he continues to dominate the game. On top of that, Chovy continues to show his ability to play any champion as he played 5 unique champions this week. In most circumstances, a player with this type of KDA would be considered a KDA player, but Chovy has been doing this while still making big plays for the team. As such, Chovy finds a spot in the OP 5 for a second week as the OP mid of the week.

ADC: Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun (SANDBOX Gaming)

After three solid weeks of play, Ghost has finally received the honor of OP ADC of the week. With some great play of the likes of Viktor and Kalista, Ghost helped SANDBOX lock in their spot at 2nd place in the standings. Along with a solid KDA of 5.08 to end Week 3, Ghost continues to improve as a player as he makes his case as best ADC in Korea.

With a few easier weeks ahead for Ghost, he’ll likely be able to show off some even better play against the lower tier teams of the LCK. As long as he can maintain his level of play, don’t be surprised if you see Ghost back in the OP 5.

Support: Son “Lehends” Si-woo (Griffin)

For the first time in the OP 5, the OP support of the week is on a different team than the OP ADC of the week. It was all thanks to the spectacular play of Lehends as he takes the honor away from SANDBOX’s Cho “Joker” Jae-eup. Much like last week’s OP support Park “TusiN” Jong-ik, Lehends was simply doing everything in another 2-0 week by Griffin.

From great fight starters on Shen to great saves on Braum, Lehend’s play this week was simply great. He was further rewarded for his play this week with a player of the game honor in Griffin’s game 2 match against SKT. While it’s hard to always stand out on a Griffin roster filled with talent, Lehends was able to do so this week as he finds a spot in the OP 5.

Honorable mentions:

As always, with all the great players, it’s hard to fit everyone in. Here are some honorable mentions for the third week of action:

To start off the honorable mentions this week, two players share the spotlight in top laner Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon and jjungler Eom “UmTi” Seong-hyeon (KT Rolster). Both players took over as starters this week due to the underperformance of both Song “Smeb” Kyung-ho and Go “Score” Dong-bin. While KT wasn’t able to have a 2-0 week, both players showed some amazing play through the week. With Kingen and UmTi leading the way, it could be time for KT’s fortune to change for the better.

Another KT member that deserves an honorable mention is ADC Jeon “Zenit” Tae-gwon (KT Rolster) as his solid play through the week may have earned him a permanent starting spot on the roster. While his play still has some issues, Zenit continues to improve and shows a lot of promise. If he truly does takeover as the main ADC for the team, it’ll be interesting to see if he can eventually become one of the top ADCs in the region.

Meanwhile on another struggling team, Lee “Spirit” Da-yoon (Afreeca Freecs) had an interesting week as the support for Afreeca instead. While it’s not his usual role, Spirit had a solid performance and showed off a fancy AP Jarvan support. While Afreeca continues to have issues with finding a consistent bot lane, Spirit has made the most of it as he had a solid week for an off-role performance.
