Another week of LCK, another group of players that stepped up and led their team to victory through some great play. So let’s get right to it and take a look at who the OP 5 of LCK week 2 are! As always, if you missed last week’s look at the LCK’s OP 5, you can check it out here.
Top: Kim “Kiin” Gi-in (Afreeca Freecs)
Despite his team going 1-1 for the week, Kiin was simply great throughout the week. Surprisingly, most he played 4 of his 5 games on ADCs this week with Lucian being played in 3 of those games. While he had a somewhat rough time against Kingzone DragonX, his play against Gen.G stood out as he was by far the best player throughout the entire series.
With some important matchups in week 3 to separate Afreeca from the bottom of the standings, Kiin will be relied up once again to lead the team to what will hopefully be a 2-0 week.
Jungle: Kim “OnFleek” Jang-gyeom (SANDBOX Gaming)
To the surprise of most fans of the LCK, SANDBOX Gaming is still undefeated so far this season. A large part of their success is thanks to OnFleek’s stellar play in the jungle. Through the week, OnFleek has simply been amazing, out-jungling the likes of Kim “Clid” Tae-min and Kim “Moojin” Moo-jin.
With another big week coming up as Sandbox is set to take on DAMWON Gaming and Griffin, OnFleek will need to maintain the level of play fans witnessed this week if SANDBOX wants a shot at remaining undefeated. Will OnFleek be able to dominate the map once again? Or will the the undefeated streak end? Only time will tell.
Mid: Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon (Griffin)
That number represents the KDA of Griffin’s mid laner Chovy, after dying a single time through the 2 weeks. While that’s more than enough to describe just how well Chovy has been playing, let’s continue. His play on Akali continues to impress as it slowly reaches ban-worthy status. On top of that, Chovy reminded fans who his signature champion is as he wiped the floor with DAMWON with Zoe (11/0/5).
With a huge week 3 against SK Telecom T1 and SANDBOX Gaming coming up, Chovy will need to continue his amazing play as Griffin looks to continue their undefeated streak. But for fans the real question right now is likely will Chovy’s KDA keep rising or will it finally fall?
ADC: Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu (Kingzone DragonX)
With a surprising 2-0 week for Kingzone DragonX, it’s hard not to have Deft as the OP ADC of the week. With a impressive 72.3% kill participation, Deft has been a huge carry for the team, picking up 2 player of the game honors through the week. On top of his amazing performance on the likes of Varus and his iconic Jinx, Deft showed something new this week as he pulled out a Ziggs pick against Afreeca.
While there’s quite a few stats to list off to show how great Deft has been this week, the best stat to show is simply the damage charts from game 1 against Afreeca Freecs where Deft dealt 28.6k damage. While Kingzone managed to find success sooner rather than later, they’ll be relying on Deft to continue their winning ways.
Support: Park “TusiN” Jong-ik (Kingzone DragonX)
A large part of Deft’s success has been thanks to the OP support of the week in TusiN. Through the week, TusiN was doing everything, keeping the team alive on Braum and Tahm Kench, or starting amazing fights on Shen and Alistar, TusiN was simply incredible.
While Deft was amazing, his great play wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the play of TusiN himself. As such, as much as Kingzone’s success relies on Deft, Deft’s success relies on TusiN as well. Will the duo be able to keep Kingzone’s success going? Fans will find out soon enough.
Honorable Mentions
As always, with all the great players, it’s hard to fit everyone in. Here’s some honorable mentions for the first week of action:
Starting off the honorable mentions this week is Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong (KT Rolster), who played a big part in KT’s win and once again was a huge part of the team’s success as he continues to lead in kill participation with a whopping 87.1%. While the rest of KT still struggles, Bdd continues to impress, hopefully wins will start coming for the talented mid laner.
Secondly, the trend of mid laners in the honorable mentions continue with Heo “PawN” Won-seok (Kingzone DragonX), who is starting to prove the doubters wrong with a solid performance through the week. While he was overshadowed by Deft, it’s important to acknowledge the solid week PawN had this week. Now the question is whether he’ll be able to maintain his return to form or if this was all he had left in the tank.
Lastly, an honorable mention goes out to Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk (Gen.G), who also had an amazing week that was overshadowed by the performance of Deft. However, like Deft, Ruler played a huge role in Gen.G’s victories as the team relies on him to be the main carry for the team. If Gen.G wants to find more success, a lot of it will depend on Ruler’s continued great play.
