In a recent patch that made several balance adjustments to Hearthstone’s newest auto-chess mode, Battlegrounds, the game also rotated in four new heroes, subbing four of the previous ones out. In this move, the following four heroes were removed, with the potential to make their return to the game at a later date, according to developers.
- King Mukla
- Giantfin
- Millificent Manastorm
- Lich Baz’hial
With these four taking their leave, a new batch of heroes enter the tavern. And, after a day’s worth of testing, it’s pretty clear which ones are strong and which are, well, not so strong.

New Hero Rankings
1. Brann Bronzebeard
Brann is clearly very strong and is far and away the best hero on this list. Battlecry’s are a big part of every part of the game and getting a free buff in addition to them can be useful at every point in a game. This incredible scaling and free value allow for players to play just about any composition and still have success with Brann. If you see him on the draft, you’d be a fool to pick just about anyone else at the moment.
2. Sindragosa
Sindragosa is the first hero to utilize freezing and it makes for an overall really fun and unique gameplay. This can lead to a clear edge in the early and mid-game and scales decently well into the latter parts of a match. He’s not as strong as Brann but, at this point, few are.
3. Sir Finley Mrrgglton
Sir Finley feels like he is strong, particularly in the early and mid-game. At those points, the +1/+1 feels strong, giving a player a clear edge over their opponents. However, the only thing that prevents him from being higher is the poor scaling to late-game due to the need to sell minions in order to refresh the ability. Because of this, look to the previously mentioned new heroes first when drafting.
4. Elise Starseeker
As of right now, it’s hard to see any real value in Elise’s ability, outside of the fact that it allows players the guaranteed chance to get a minion of the current tier. In-game, this didn’t feel like it provided much in comparison to other heroes, especially ones like Brann. Elise is not only at the bottom of this list, but also sits at the bottom of the current overall Hero Tier List.
Overall, as more testing comes out of these new heroes, perhaps new strategies will arise that change the order of this list. However, for now, this is a good guide to use when navigating Battlegrounds four new heroes.
