The Hearthstone Championship Tour is back after a long break with no action due to BlizzCon. HCT Atlanta is the next stop, and it is during Dreamhack Atlanta. A ton of premier talent is making their way to Atlanta in order to compete on this Tour Stop.
Players to Watch
A ton of the best from all over are featured in this tournament. At least 32 of the competitors are consistent tour stop attendees.
Canadian Ryan “Purple” Murphy-Root has been playing strong as of late. He looks to better himself here as he was stopped in the top 16 by Jerome “Monsanto” Faucher at HCT Orange County. Monsanto himself has also had a great year, he looks to beat his top eight performance from Orange County.
Maxime “Kalà xz“ Thierry’s last Tour Stop was HCT Oslo, where he finished in the top four after losing to the red hot David “JustSaiyan” Shan. JustSaiyan did not go to Orange County, as his last tournament appearance was when he qualified for a World Championship seat at the Fall Championship.
Eddie “seohyun628” Lui hasn’t been to too many Tour Stops this season, but will be heading to HCT Atlanta. He has made top 16 at most of his tournaments, so expect another strong performance here. His last Tour Stop loss was to fellow Canadian Josh “Impact” Graham. Impact finds himself travelling to HCT Atlanta after back-to-back top fours in Montreal and Orange County.
Steve “yoitsflo” Florentino has made many strong finishes this year, and hopes that he doesn’t have to face William “Amnesiac” Barton, who has stopped him from winning a couple tournaments this year. Amnesiac has made multiple consecutive top 16 finishes, but wants another win after winning HCT Austin back in June.
Three of the current eight already qualified World Championship participants are in HCT Atlanta. On their quest for Master ranks they will look to steal points away from those looking for other tournament qualifications.
LHS Format
Very unusual for Hearthstone Championship Tour events, this tournament will be played in the Last Hero Standing format. Typically Conquest is played, where players must win with every class they have.
In Last Hero Standing, players must simply beat all of their opponent’s decks. If a player wins with a deck, they cannot switch until that deck is defeated. When sweeps occur – and they do -, a player plays only a single deck.
This format makes it much harder to expose the weakness in someone’s tournament lineup, and forces a ban on the biggest threat to your victory. At the same time, you can play sets without having to play your weak deck should you just win with your other decks.
HCT Atlanta tournament will run from November 16-18. Catch it all on the official DreamhackHS channel.Â
