Online play for Naruto Storm games has always been a bit iffy. It provided a way for players to match against each other, regardless of location. But the connection always brought frustration — bringing concerns for the connectivity for the future game. And with Storm Connections Online coming our way, players wondered if the online would function properly. Popular anime gaming content creator Globku brought some of the concerns to rest, but also created an even bigger one.

Storm Connections Online Lacks Friend Matches
According to Globku, Storm Connections doesn’t allow for friend matches. There is apparently only a match making system, where players face against random people. This makes it excessively difficult to play with friends.
The streamer played an early review copy of the game, made evident by the fact that his video covering this topic came before the official release of Storm Connections. But even after the official release, it’s evident friend invites are not present in the game.
The online matches net code was seemingly improved substantially from previous iterations of Storm. This means the connection as a whole in Storm Connections functions better than before. That’s a pun. But the lack of a friend invite is unacceptable. In 2023, launching a fighting game without the capability to invite friends reeks of laziness.
To play with friends, players have to queue up for a match at the exact same time as their friend to match against them. But if they run into someone else, they either have no choice but to fight the stranger or quit out of the game entirely. There is no button in game to escape. And with the lack of cross-play for Storm Connections, playing with friends is excessively difficult.
