Trainers, the Teal Mask has now been out for over a couple of weeks, but there’s still plenty to do. Those looking for side quests to pass the time might be interested in fighting the Kitakami Ogre Clan. This piece will go over where to find every member of the clan on Kitakami.
Who Are the Kitakami Ogre Clan?
The Kitakami Ogre Clan is a group of trainers who wear Ogerpon’s festival mask. They are meant to pose a higher difficulty challenge for players and are known for using competitively trained Pokémon and items. Players can think of this as a discount Battle Frontier or Kitakami’s own gym challenge…without the badges.
Each member specializes in a different battle style and type of Pokémon. There are 8 total. For this piece, I will list all of the members and give a breakdown of their teams and items. Keep in mind, you can fight them in any order, but this piece will give them in the order listed on Bulbapedia.
Raikiri
The first member, Raikiri, can be found in Apple Hills. She specializes mostly in electric types, except for one, and her team is as follows:
Raichu
Level: 75
Ability: Static
Moves: Thunderbolt, Light Screen, Thunder Wave, Grass Knot
Item: None
Probopass
Type: Rock/Steel
Level: 75
Ability: Sturdy
Moves: Gravity, Zap Cannon, Power Gem, Flash Cannon
Item: None
Luxray
Level: 76
Ability: Rivalry
Moves: Electric Terrain, Wild Charge, Ice Fang, Crunch
Item: Terrain Extender
Vikavolt
Level: 77
Ability: Levitate
Moves: Zap Cannon, Thunder, Bug Buzz, Acrobatics
Item: Electric Seed
Tips: Raikiri is most likely to send out Luxray first to set up an electric terrain and then Vikavolt to capitalize on the electric seed. Have a Pokémon that can get rid of the terrain and a Pokémon that knows Earthquake.
It will be enough to decimate 3 out of her four team members and then all players have to do is obliterate Vikavolt.
Masamune
Masamune can be found at the Mossfell Confluence. He specializes in Fairy types. His Pokémon are the following:
Grimmsnarl
Level: 75
Ability: Prankster
Held Item: Light Clay
Moveset: Spirit Break, Light Screen, Reflect, False Surrender
Gardevoir
Level: 75
Ability: Synchronize
Held Item: None
Moveset: Psychic, Moonblast, Mystical Fire, Aura Sphere
Ribombee
Level: 76
Ability: Honey Gather
Held Item: None
Moveset: Quiver Dance, Moonblast, Bug Buzz, Sticky Web
Clefable
Level: 77
Ability: Cute Charm
Held Item: Sitrus Berry
Moveset: Moonblast, Calm Mind, Flamethrower, Psychic
Tips: Masamune’s strategy might be to set up screens with Grimmsnarl and follow into a strong assault from Ribombee and Gardevoir. Finally, as a last defense, he plans to stall out enemies with Clefable. Carry a brick breaker and use that along with strong fire and steel types to bury Masamune in the dirt.
Hasebe
Hasebe can be found in Fellhorn Gorge. She specializes in Water-type Pokémon. Her team is as follows:
Politoed
Level: 75
Ability: Drizzle
Held Item: Damp Rock
Moveset: Chilling Water, Ice Beam, Hyper Voice, Surf
Ludicolo
Level: 75
Ability: Swift Swim
Held Item: None
Moveset: Giga Drain, Rain Dance, Uproar, Surf
Drednaw
Level: 75
Ability: Strong Jaw
Held Item: None
Moveset: Liquidation, Jaw Lock, Shell Smash, Rock Tomb
Basculegion
Level: 75
Ability: Drizzle
Held Item: Wacan Berry
Moveset: Wace Crash, Shadow Ball, Crunch, Aqua Jet
Tips: Hasebe’s team is designed to take advantage of rainy weather. Having a faster electric type with thunder equipped is a stand-out move for this member. For when Ludicolo is sent out, flying types are the GOAT.
Kanemitsu
Kanemitsu can be found in the Paradise Barrens. She specializes in using a Sunny Day team and fire types, with a couple of exceptions.
Ninetales
Level: 75
Ability: Drought
Held Item: Heat Rock
Moveset: Flamethrower, Will-O-Wisp, Energy Ball, Dark Pulse
Shiftry
Level: 75
Type: Grass/Dark
Ability: Chlorophyll
Held Item: None
Moveset: Leaf Blade, Explosion, Swords Dance, Sucker Punch
Chandelure
Level: 76
Ability: Flash Fire
Held Item: None
Moveset: Flamethrower, Shadow Ball, Psychic, Burning Jealousy
Lilligant
Level 77
Type: Grass
Ability: Leaf Guard
Held Item: Coba Berry
Moveset: Quiver Dance, Petal Dance, Pollen Puff, Sleep Powder
Tips: This team is built off of sunny weather, much like Hasebe’s was built off of rainy weather. Bring a rain dance Pokémon plenty of water types. As for Kanemitsu’s grass type members, she made the mistake of forgetting Solarbeam. Us your own fire types against her and go ham.
Kunitsuna, Munechika, and Kotetsu
This section will be written differently as these three members are found on Oni Mountain. There they will be written with all of their teams and a paragraph for their sets.
Kunitsuna: Carbink, Golem, Froslass, and Mamoswine
Kunitsuna’s first two Pokémon are level 75 with Froslass and Mamoswine being 76 and 77 respectively. It would seem that Kunitsuna specializes in defensive rock and ice types. Carbink is Rock and Fairy, Golem is Rock and Ground, Froslass is Ice and Ghost, and Mamoswine is Ice and Ground.
Their abilities in the order the team is written is Sturdy (Carbink), Sand Veil (Golem), Snow Cloak (Froslass), and Thick Fat (Mamoswine). Only Froslass and Mamoswine are holding items (Focus Sash and Passho Berry respectively). Below are their movesets:
Carbink: Stealth Rock, Rock Blast, Smack Down, and Moonblast
Golem: Rock Slide, Earthquake, Gyro Ball, Stone Edge
Froslass: Snowscape, Blizzard, Shadow Ball, Thunder Wave
Mamoswine: Icicle Spear, Earthquake, Ice Shard, Rock Tomb
The best thing to do here since Kunitsuna is not working with a specific strat in mind is to counter his typings. Bring water, fighting, fire, and steel types. It’s pretty much a winning fight.
Munechika: Ambipom, Maushold, Greedent, and Snorlax
Munechika’s first two Pokémon are level 75 with Greedent and Snorlax being 76 and 77 respectively. Munechika specializes in Normal type Pokémon, having a mix of offense and defense. They are all pure normal types.
Their abilities in the order the team is written is Technician (Ambipom and Maushold), Cheek Pouch (Greedent), and Immunity (Snorlax). Only Greedent and Snorlax are holding items (Figy Berry and Leftovers respectively). Below are their movesets:
Ambipom: Double Hit, Thief, Fake Out, and Fire Punch
Maushold: Population Bomb, Bullet Seed, Bite, Tidy Up
Greedent: Body Slam, Belch, Earthquake, Bullet Seed
Snorlax: Curse, Body Slam, Heavy Slam, Earthquake
The best thing here…bring fighting types. Seriously, mix up a team of offensive attackers and defensive walls and anyone should be ok. This is by far the easiest of the eight.
Kotetsu: Heracross, Gallade, Conkeldurr, Kommo-o
Kotetsu’s first two Pokémon are level 75 with Conkeldurr and Kommo-o being 76 and 77 respectively. Kotetsu specializes in Normal type Pokémon, having a mix of offense and defense. They are all fighting types.
Their abilities in the order the team is written is Swarm (Heracross), Sharpness (Gallade), Guts (Conkeldurr), and Overcoat (Kommo-o). Only Conkeldurr and Kommo-o are holding items (Payapa Berry and Throat Spray respectively). Below are their movesets:
Heracross: Megahorn, Close Combat, Rock Blast, and Bullet Seed
Gallade: Psychic Cut, Night Slash, Sacred Sword, Aqua Cutter
Conkeldurr: Focus Punch, Hammer Arm, Rock Tomb, Thunder Punch
Kommo-o: Clangorous Soul, Clanging Scales, Aura Sphere, Iron Head
The best thing here is to bring a balanced team with plenty of fairy types on it. Kommo-o won’t be able to touch them and they will resist Kotetsu’s other three Pokémon. Sylveon, Clefable, and Azumaril are some of the most useful, but no trainer can go wrong with any fairy type they choose.
Conclusion
These are the locations and parties of the first 7 members of the Kitagami Ogre Clan. Since Muramasa is the leader, and holds special requirements to find him, there will be a related piece on him alone. This is a perticularly fun and engaging sidequest for any battle hungry trainer. Good luck.
