The Game Haus will be analyzing the Madden 19 ratings of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. This article will examine the Denver Broncos’ Madden 19 ratings.
Emmanuel Sanders
Emmanuel Sanders has quietly been one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL. While his numbers dipped last season, it wasn’t the result of his own doing. While Sanders has produced quality results everywhere he’s played, his 88 overall rating is too high. The main justification for this point plays on his own team, Demaryius Thomas, who is also an 88 overall. Since Sanders joined the Broncos in 2014, he has never had more catches, yards, or touchdowns than Thomas.
Now, production isn’t everything. However, when the quarterback play dipped last season, Thomas outshined Sanders significantly. Thomas accumulated 36 more catches, 394 more yards, and three more touchdowns. Yes, Sanders only played in 12 games last year, but that factors into a player’s overall rating.
It’s also important to see what players he’s unjustly rated higher than. For example, Sanders’ rating places him higher than Brandin Cooks, Tyreek Hill, and Marvin Jones Jr. All of those players had more catches, yards, and touchdowns than Sanders last season. While this rating designation seems like splitting hairs, it deserves to be mentioned.
Derek Wolfe
Like most Broncos last season, Derek Wolfe’s production took a hit. Not only did he struggle to stay on the field at the end of the year, his statistical performance was his worst since 2014. However, his overall rating of 83 is not entirely accurate. Like most 3-4 defensive ends, they don’t accumulate huge statistical production.
His current rating makes him tied with five other players as the 32nd best defensive end. He’s being ranked behind unproven players like Yannick Ngakoue and Leonard Williams. While those players certainly have more potential at this point, that shouldn’t justify their higher rating, especially with how poorly Ngakoue played his rookie season. Look for Wolfe’s rating to rise as the new Broncos offense takes pressure off this tremendous defense.
Bradley Chubb
Even though Bradley Chubb hasn’t played a snap in the NFL yet, he’s being underrated. Last season, Myles Garrett, the number one defensive prospect, entered the season with an 83 overall rating. No matter which draft analyst you read or listen to, 95% of them had Chubb as a better prospect than Garrett. They play the same position and were both top five picks.
Now, Garrett was the first overall pick, which may be the reason for the higher rating, but that shouldn’t matter. Chubb is going to have a superior statistical rookie season to Garrett given he’s slated to start week one and will play opposite Von Miller. Expect Chubb’s rating to skyrocket as the season progresses.
Adjusted Ratings
Emmanuel Sanders – 85 Overall
Derek Wolfe – 85 Overall
Bradley Chubb – 84 Overall
