EA Sports’ Madden franchise has the daunting task of ranking all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. So, The Game Haus will be analyzing the most questionable ratings for players on every NFL team.
Here are the most questionable Madden 21 ratings for the San Francisco 49ers.
George Kittle 98
Yes. George Kittle’s Madden rating is questionable. He shouldn’t be rated a 98 since he’s one of the best tight ends in the NFL today. He should join the 99 club with the likes of Carolina Panthers’ Christian McCaffery and Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald. Kittle is one of the offensive captains for the 49ers offense and his presence is greatly felt by the opposing defense.
The 49ers offense averages 4.9 yards per carry and a 43 percent success rate on outside runs with Kittle on the field. Without the pro-bowl tight end, the average drops to 3.0 yards and a 29 percent success rate.
Kittle also ranks sixth among all tight ends in run-blocking with a grade of 76.8. His best run-blocking grade was 82.8 against the Saints during week 14 last season after his previous best run-blocking grade (78.1) the week earlier against the Baltimore Ravens.
San Francisco and Kittle are still in discussions about a contract extension with general manager John Lynch saying that “it’d be silly not to figure it out”. That alone should tell you how elite of a player Kittle is.
Adjusted Rating — 99
Raheem Mostert 84
An 84 rating isn’t a bad rating but Mostert’s rating can definitely be rated a bit higher. Mostert is entering his fifth season with the 49ers and he’s looking to improve from his breakout season last year. Remember, Mostert came in after running back Matt Breida came down with injuries early last season.
The San Francisco running back rushed for 48.3 yards per game on 151 touches scoring 10 touchdowns (eight rushing, 2 receiving). In the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers, Mostert also made history with 220 rush yards and four touchdowns in a playoff game. The score at the end of that game was a score of 37-20 with Mostert scoring 24 of those points.
There’s no argument that Mostert is going to be the 49ers number one running back after trading Matt Breida to the Miami Dolphins. The 49ers also recently restructured Mostert’s deal after he requested a trade due to unproductive contract talks. The fact that Lynch was able to restructure Mostert’s deal should tell you how much he means to the 49ers offense.
Adjusted Rating — 87
Jimmy Garoppolo 83
No one would’ve thought that Garoppolo would help lead this 49ers team to a Super Bowl appearance last season. However, his rating is a bit overrated, but not by much. You can make an argument to make his rating higher and that’s fine. But, Garoppolo had that bad showing in the second half of the biggest game of his career: Super Bowl XVI.
There’s no question that last season was Garoppolo’s best season. He started all 16 games from start to finish after coming off an ACL injury. The 49ers quarterback led the team to a 13-3-0 record winning the first eight games. Garoppolo also had a 69.1 completion percentage throwing 248.6 yards per game along with 27 passing touchdowns.
Garoppolo also managed to pull off four fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives. The most well-known comeback being the game against the New Orleans Saints during week 14.
The main downside from him last season is his total interceptions (13) and interception percentage (2.7).
In conclusion, Garoppolo isn’t a bad quarterback nor is he a great one. But, if he can pull off what he did last season then the 49ers should be in good shape in the long run. At 28 years old, Garoppolo has a lot to learn still as a starting quarterback though he’s on the NFL Top 100 list at No. 43. There’s no doubt that he’ll improve on his skill set before next season.
Adjusted Rating — 81
