The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from every NFL team in Madden 20. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there have been arising issues with initial rankings of certain players. With that, here are the questionable Madden 20 ratings for the Washington Redskins.
Landon Collins: 83 Overall
After having his 2018 season cut short due to a torn labrum, Landon Collins was still able rack up 96 combined tackles. This was enough to put him at 11th among defensive backs, before eventually being put on injured reserve. In spite of this injury, the New York Giants let Collins walk and sign with the Washington Redskins to a 6 year/$84 million deal.
Collins is one of the more unique Safeties in the NFL, because of his play-making ability. He isn’t the fastest player on the field, however he makes up for it with his awareness and power. These qualities allow for him to excel in the box – almost as a linebacker – and control the opponent’s run game. Even though he’s coming off of his ‘worst’ statistical season, his stats through 12 games were still enough for him to be named to the Pro Bowl.
It seems as though Madden was extremely cautious when rating Collins this year, because they don’t know how well he would’ve done if he remained healthy last season. If his new contract entails anything, it’s that the Redskins think he’s a top talent, despite his Madden 20 rating.
Adjusted rating: 86
Case Keenum: 73 Overall
Over the years Case Keenum has served his purpose on every team he’s been apart of. The journeyman has traveled all across the nation, playing on four different teams before being traded to the Redskins this off-season. Nothing has ever really stood out with Keenum, but his consistency and progression got the attention of Washington’s front office.
Keenum is coming off of his best season yet, consisting of almost 3,900 yards passing and 18 touchdowns. His passer rating took a minor hit due to a higher number of interceptions, but Keenum proved that he’s capable of being a starter in the NFL. An overall rating of 73 is a slap in the face, considering his 82 rating from a year ago.
Adjusted rating: 78
Montez Sweat: 73 Overall
Sweat holding a 73 overall has been quite a shock, considering his unique build and set of skills. In 2018 at Mississippi State, Sweat was tied for the 5th most sacks in college football with 12. On top of that, he collected 53 tackles and a forced fumble.
The main thing that separates Sweat from his peers is his speed. At the 2019 NFL Combine, Sweat ran a staggering 4.41-second 40-yard dash. For comparison, RG3 ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash in 2012. Sweat ended up breaking the previous record for defensive linemen that had been held since 2003.
Even though Sweat doesn’t jump off the paper as a gifted player, he should’ve been given some credit for his great 2018 season, as well as his incredible quickness. A 73 rating seems a bit low for someone so capable, so hopefully he’ll get his rating altered as the season progresses.
Adjusted rating: 79
Dwayne Haskins: 72 Overall
Haskins is surely one of the most unproven talents in the NFL as of now, but a 72 rating feels disrespectful. In his first and only season at Ohio State University, Haskins put up nearly 5,000 yards passing and 50 touchdowns. With those statistics, Haskins is one of six quarterbacks in FBS history to throw for over 50 touchdowns in a season. In addition, he is also in the top 20 for most passing yards in a season.
Like Montez Sweat, Haskins was a 1st-round pick in this year’s draft. Though he’s only a single point behind 1st overall pick Kyler Murray (73), Haskins was made out to be the best quarterback in the draft. How Madden ultimately got to their rating of 72 is a mystery, but Haskins will surely be working towards getting his rating up, as well as the Redskins’ hopes.
