The Game Haus will be analyzing the player ratings from Madden 20 of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with some of the initial rankings of players. Here are the Madden 20 questionable ratings: Houston Texans.
JaDeveon Clowney- 92
Clowney is currently in a contract year and wants a new deal, so he’ll need to have a big season. Last season, he had 47 total tackles and nine sacks. While he has been hyped up, and is still a good player, Clowney has never had a season with double-digit sacks. Madden gave him a 92 rating, which is a little bit too high.
DeMarcus Lawrence of the Dallas Cowboys has two straight years of double-digit sacks, finishing last season with 10.5. He was given a rating of 89 by Madden, which doesn’t add up. Clowney should be docked a few points.
Adjusted Rating- 89
Lamar Miller- 85
Miller isn’t quite the running back he once was, although he did have a decent season for the Texans in 2018. He rushed for 976 yards and five touchdowns on 4.6 yards per carry. Madden didn’t seem to notice that Miller is regressing and gave him an 85 rating.
There are other running backs ranked lower that had very similar seasons to MIller. Marlon Mack rushed for 908 yards on 4.7 yards per carry. He also had five more rushing touchdowns than Miller, but Mack was given a rating of 82. Miller should drop to an 82 as well.
Adjusted Rating- 82
Deshaun Watson- 82
Watson was rated as an 82 in Madden 20, which is a bit too low given his play last year. He threw for 4,165 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 68.3 percent completion. The two-year veteran also added 551 yards on the ground with five rushing touchdowns.
Baker Mayfield had a good rookie season for the Browns, throwing for 3,725 yards, 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on 63.8 percent completion. While this is impressive, Watson had better stats and the added ability to run the ball. Watson shouldn’t be rated lower than Mayfield’s 83.
Adjusted Rating- 84
Keke Coutee- 73
Coutee was only able to play in six games in his rookie season last year, but was a playmaker when he was on the field. He finished the season with 28 catches for 287 yards and one touchdown. Madden decided his play was only good enough for a 73 rating.
Other receivers were able to play more games and only put up marginally better stats than Coutee. Jermaine Kearse had 37 catches for 371 yards and one touchdown in 14 games. Kearse was given a rating of 78, which is a little too high given his play last season. Coutee should be given a few extra points as well.
Adjusted Rating- 78
