My Hero Ultra Rumble recently released Aizawa — who stands as their first new character release since the game launched globally. And as such, expectations for the new character release were pretty big. Players were hyped, excited for more content, but the update proved to disappoint a big portion of the community.
From more bugs, an unfriendly gacha system, and a lackluster character drop, Aizawa’s release served as a trigger for many of the community’s concerns.
“I don’t see how they’re going to keep this game balanced and fair when you’re locking four characters behind a paywall,” one Redditor shared in the game’s subreddit.
For those unaware, Aizawa is locked behind a gacha system with a 1.0% drop rate. This makes him not guaranteed, even if players decide to drop money. His release therefore brought light to the monetization system in place for My Hero Ultra Rumble, which a big portion of players becoming increasingly frustrated over.
In addition, the pity system refreshed in a short two weeks, leaving little room for players to actually make good use of it. The pity system awarded players points for duplicate rolls — thereby creating a system where players could eventually purchase the character they wanted despite not running into them while rolling.
But upon Aizawa’s arrival, the roll banners refreshed. This took away all the pity points players accumulated in a brief two week period.
Aizawa is literally broken
The gacha system would have been more excusable for the community if Aizawa released in a good state. But at the moment, it seems the character is literally broken. Not overpowered or super strong, but Aizawa is quite literally broken.
The character’s alpha ability has issues latching onto its target, similar to Ochaka’s Alpha ability before the bug fixes. In addition, Aizawa’s general kit lacks damage, often sacrificing his utility of mobility.
Considering his immense popularity in My Hero Academia’s manga alongside anime, people expected a far better feel for the character’s gameplay. His state of play on launch definitely missed the mark for a lot of the players — leaving a bitter taste in their mouths.
