R.J. Hampton, a five-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting class, announced on Tuesday that he will be signing a contract to play basketball for the New Zealand Breakers rather than playing college basketball. Hampton announced his intention to do so on ESPN’s “Get Up!”.

Hampton said, “My dream has never been to play college basketball. My dream has always been to get to the next level and play in the NBA.”
He was ranked as the number five recruit in the class according to 247 sports. He was considering Kansas, Texas Tech and Memphis before deciding to play overseas.
The Breakers play in the National Basketball League (NBL) which is based out of Australia.
