Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 13. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Jeremy McNichols, RB, Washington Commanders
The Commanders had some injuries to the running back position. Both Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson suffered injuries against the Cowboys. McNichols had just three carries for 22 yards in the game, but looks like his role could increase over the next few weeks.
Brian Robinson’s injury looked bad, but he was able to return to the game. It is worth watching the injury reports to see if McNichols can officially be picked up and started. He is currently rostered in just 1.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Ameer Abdullah, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas has had injuries at the running back position as well. That resulted in Ameer Abdullah getting most of the work out of the backfield against the Broncos in week 12. He finished the game with eight carries for 28 yards and five catches for 37 yards and one touchdown.
Zamir White and Alexander Mattison both missed week 11. They could return soon, so it is important to check the injury report this week as well. It is likely that Abdullah will have a role in the backfield when they return, as they ease themselves back in. Abdullah is rostered in 19.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Xavier Legette, WR, Carolina Panthers
Legette didn’t have his best performance in week 12 against the Chiefs. He finished the game with four catches for 56 yards. Legette did get six targets and was receiving more attention after playing well in the Panthers’ last several games.
The Panthers are counting on Legette for the future. With Bryce Young playing better, the two could get on the same page and gel late in the season. Adam Thielen came back this week, so starting Legette could be tough, but he can be rostered for now. He is rostered in 36.3 percent of ESPN Leagues.
4. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, New Orleans Saints
The Saints were on a bye in week 12, but before that Marquez Valdes-Scantling was heating up. He had three catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns in week 10 then followed it up two catches for 87 yards and a touchdown in week 11.
Valdes-Scantling is a big-play threat and a boom-or-bust player in fantasy. He is worth picking up and could be played based on the matchups or on a fantasy mangers’ player availability. Valdes-Scantling is rostered in 15.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Adam Thielen, WR, Carolina Panthers
Adam Thielen eased himself back into action against the Chiefs in week 12. He returned from a hamstring injury and had a decent day after not playing since week 3 against the Raiders. Thielen had four targets, catching four of them for 57 yards.
With Bryce Young playing well, Thielen has some potential to produce down the stretch. As he gets healthier, it will be interesting to see how he performs. He can be picked up while his production is tracked. Thielen is rostered in 27.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
