One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 3. (Note: All defense mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Los Angeles Chargers
So far this season, the Chargers’ defense is averaging 6.5 fantasy points per game. They had a 12-point performance against Las Vegas and a one-point performance against Kansas City. The game against Kansas City was on Thursday night so they’ll have plenty of time to prepare for their week 3 matchup.
In week 3, the Chargers play the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars have played better than last season, but still score just 23 points per game. With the Chargers’ key defensive additions J.C. Jackson and Khalil Mack, they should have a successful day against the Jaguars. The Chargers are rostered in 49.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles rank seventh for fantasy defenses through two weeks. They scored five points against Detroit and 13 points against Minnesota. With four interceptions and three sacks, the defense has a knack for the big play.
Philadelphia plays Washington in week 3. The Commanders have had some success offensively, scoring 27.5 points per game. They may score some points, but the Eagles defense is talented enough to be picked up and streamed then kept on fantasy rosters for the long haul if they play to their potential. That is especially true given the division they are in. The Eagles are available in nearly 80 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota ranks 11tth as a fantasy defense this season, averaging 6.5 points per game. They scored 11 points against Green Bay in week 1 and two points against the Eagles in week 2. The stat-line doesn’t tell the full story though, as the Vikings’ offense didn’t help the defense at all.
Week 3 has the Vikings playing the Detroit Lions. The Lions had some success against the Commanders in week 2, but Washington’s defense has been notoriously bad the last few years. Minnesota is rostered in just five percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Chicago Bears
Chicago has played well defensively this season, averaging 5.5 points per game. They scored nine points against the 49ers and two against the Packers. They may have lost Khalil Mack this offseason, but they still have plenty of talent defensively.
In week 3, the Bears match up with the Houston Texans. Houston scores just 14.5 points per game and there weren’t too many improvements to the offense this offseason. Chicago should be able to rebound after playing the Packers. They are rostered in under two percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks rank 14th as a fantasy defense after averaging six points per game. They scored four points against Denver and eight against San Francisco. While some of the big names are gone, like Bobby Wagner, Seattle is still a solid fantasy defense.
Seattle plays Atlanta in week 3. The Falcons are in rebuild mode. While they have scored 26.3 points per game, the offense is far from consistent. In this game, Seattle will run the ball and try to control the clock, which will limit the Falcons’ ability to score. The Seahawks are rostered in just 1.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
