One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions almost every week to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 6. (Note: All defense mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore defense is a shell of its former self this season and ranks 26th in fantasy football. That is mostly due to two bad weeks in a row against the Browns and Chiefs, where they scored -6 points in each week. The other weeks this season they have played solidly, with four points against the Cardinals, seven against the Steelers and 14 against the Dolphins in the opener.
This week the Ravens take on the Cincinnati Bengals, who have one of the worst offenses in the league. The Bengals have allowed fantasy defenses to score a lot of points this season, as they rank seventh-most fantasy points to defenses this season. The Ravens are owned in 45.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Dallas Cowboys
So far this year, the Cowboys have had an average defense and rank 18th in fantasy points. They played great games against the Dolphins and the Saints, but have struggled in their other contests. The Cowboys have talent, but put it all together sporadically.
Dallas is going up against the Jets this week. The Jets have been struggling mightily without Sam Darnold who is still questionable for this game. Without Sam Darnold, the Cowboys can have a huge day. With Darnold in the lineup, the Cowboys will still likely have a solid day.
3. Washington Redskins
The Redskins fired Jay Gruden, but the defense shouldn’t feel too different. They are ranked 28th for fantasy defenses this season, but still have some solid players on their team. Washington scored negative points in the first few weeks of the season, but have rebounded well the last few weeks to score 16 points over that time.
Washington is traveling to Miami to take on the Dolphins this week. Both of these teams aren’t good, but the Redskins defense should be able to play well. The defense is available in over 95 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Seattle Seahawks
Seattle’s defense is ranked in the middle of the pack for fantasy scoring, at 16th. They had a tough week against the Rams where they scored -2 points, but otherwise, have played pretty well. The Seahawks have not allowed more than 30 points in a game and have one matchup against the Cardinals in which they scored 15 fantasy points.
This week they will travel to play the Browns in Cleveland. Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland offense has looked awful at different points this season, especially on Monday Night Football against the 49ers. After playing on Monday, they’ll only have a short week to get ready for the Seahawks. Pete Carroll will have his squad ready.
5. Miami Dolphins
Yes, a team that is tanking is on this list. They have negative fantasy points on the season and are by far the worst fantasy defense in the league this year. Picking up this defense is only for the desperate team owners who are willing to take a risk.
With Miami playing Washington, there is an opportunity for a solid game. Jay Gruden is out so the offense will be even more out of whack than previous weeks. The Washington offensive line still isn’t great. Miami likely doesn’t have the capability to have a great day, but they could register some positive fantasy points, which for them is a good thing.
