Add and drop
The players to add are top prospects and the drops have recently landed on the injured list.
Add of the week: Austin Riley, 3B, Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves promoted Riley to the majors after placing outfielder Ender Inciarte on the injured list. Riley pressured the Braves all year by hitting 15 home runs, 10 doubles and 39 RBI through 37 Triple-A games. While his natural position is at third base the Braves plan to use him in the outfield. He could end up keeping Inciartes spot if he performs well, however the Braves would like to play him every day even if that means sending him back to triple a. Riley currently is not eligible in the outfield but will be soon.
Add: Keston Hiura, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers
Hiura is a hard-hitting middle infielder with some speed potential. He played his first MLB game on Tuesday and went 2-for-3 and walked once. Through 147 plate appearances in the minors, he has 43 hits, 12 of which are doubles and 11 more for home runs. His current OPS of 1.417 would lead the majors and looks to continue his hot start. To be valued higher he needs to keep the strikeouts down as he has already recorded 40 in 2019.
Add: Nicky Lopez, SS, Kansas City Royals
Out of these three players, Lopez has the highest chance of staying in the MLB. The speedster has been getting on base 45 percent of the time and has scored 27 runs. He has nine stolen bases and only five strikeouts. He probably won’t be as efficient in the majors but is already batting second in the Royals lineup and could be in for a big year. In his first MLB game, he had five plate appearances, one hit, one run, one RBI and one walk. The Royals plan to play him at second and his eligibility will open soon.
Drop of the week: Miguel Andujar, 3B, New York Yankees
Andujar hasn’t played much this year and it doesn’t look like he’ll play much the rest of the year. He is currently deciding whether or not to have surgery for the tear in his shoulder. If he does in fact have surgery, he’ll likely be out for the year.
Drop: Travis Shaw, 2B, 3B, Milwaukee Brewers
Shaw was recently placed on the injured list with a wrist strain. Before the strain, he hasn’t been performing well and has a chance of losing his spot to Hiura. For now, Shaw is a drop but deserves to be watched closely when he comes off the injured list.
Drop: Ender Inciarte, OF, Atlanta Braves
Inciarte has struggled early on and was placed on the injured list Tuesday. The Braves called up Austin Riley in a move that might’ve happened even if Inciarte wasn’t hurt. If Inciarte wasn’t a drop from his poor numbers he should be now due to injury and the potential of splitting time when he comes back.
