Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are five players to add in fantasy football week 16. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Breshad Perriman, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Perriman has stepped up lately for the Buccaneers. Over the last two games, Perriman has 42 fantasy points in standard-scoring leagues. With the Bucs throwing the ball a lot, his numbers will likely stay high and he will have more opportunities moving forward.
Tampa Bay will be without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin for the rest of the season, so Perriman should get a lot of targets through the last two weeks of the season. He is owned in less than 10 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Tyler Higbee, TE, Los Angeles Rams
Another player who is on fire right now is tight end Tyler Higbee. Gerald Everett has been out with an injury and Higbee has three straight games of big production. He has three straight weeks of double-digit scoring and over the last two weeks, has 25 total targets.
Any team looking for a better tight end should consider adding Higbee while he is on his hot-streak. He is owned in just 39 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. James Washington, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
While the game on Sunday night didn’t go the Steelers’ way, Washington and Duck Hodges still showed off their chemistry. He had five catches for 83 yards against the Bills. Since week 10, he has three double-digit scoring games and could have another this week.
This week, Washington plays the Jets, who rank 24th against opposing receivers this year. Washington is owned in 30.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Kerryon Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions
Johnson has been on IR since week 7, but could rejoin the Lions this week. If he does, he should be added. The Lions aren’t playing for much at this point of the season, but Johnson looks like he wants to come back and play in the last two weeks.
Before his injury, Johnson was averaging nine points per game. Johnson is owned in 35.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Kenny Stills, WR, Houston Texans
Kenny Stills has been an afterthought in the Texans’ offense this season. He ranks as the 57th receiver in fantasy football this year. Last week against the Titans, he had a few big plays and scored 15 fantasy points.
This week, Stills plays the Buccaneers who rank 32nd against opposing receivers. He is available in over 75 percent of ESPN leagues.
