Fantasy football season is getting closer and closer. Every year millions of people play fantasy and with that comes the prep work to make sure that every draft is one that can produce a champion. This article will go through and show what happened in an ESPN 2021 fantasy football mock draft and analyze the results. This is for a 10-team, standard scoring league. Here is the 2021 fantasy football mock draft: September edition.
Team 1
Roster: QB Dak Prescott, RB Christian McCaffrey, RB D’Andre Swift, WR DK Metcalf, WR Calvin Ridley, TE Logan Thomas, WR Julio Jones, Bills D/ST, K Josh Lambo, WR Marquise Brown, WR DeVonta Smith, RB Melvin Gordon III, RB Leonard Fournette, WR Cole Beasley, WR Jalen Reagor, RB Malcolm Brown
Team 1 looks like they could make a playoff push. Not only do they have the most coveted player in Christian McCaffrey. On top of that they have two really good receivers in Metcalf and Ridley. If Prescott stays healthy at quarterback, this team could win it all. They will have to be careful about running back depth though, as Gordon and Fournette both will be in time-share backfields this year.
Team 2
Roster: QB Patrick Mahomes, RB Dalvin Cook, RB Javonte Willias, WR Justin Jefferson, WR DeAndre Hopkins, TE Robert Tonyan, WR Tyler Lockett, Steelers D/ST, K Greg Zuerlein, RB Kareem Hunt, WR Robby Anderson, WR Tyler Boyd, RB A.J. Dillon, WR Tyrell Williams, RB David Johnson, RB J.D. McKissic
With Patrick Mahomes and Dalvin Cook, along with great receivers, Team 2 also has a strong starting lineup. Cook and Mahomes can carry most weeks, but they will also have to be weary of their running backs. Williams may split carries with Melvin Gordon, Hunt is a solid running back, but doesn’t get as many snaps as Nick Chubb and no one else on the roster will likely lead the team in carries.
Team 3
Roster: QB Kyler Murray, RB Derrick Henry, RB Chris Carson, WR Stefon Diggs, WR A.J. Brown, TE Noah Fant, WR Chris Godwin, Buccaneers D/ST, K Jason Sanders, WR Chase Claypool, WR D.J. Chark, WR Henry Ruggs, RB Ronald Jones II, WR DeVante Parker, WR Jakobi Myers, QB Trevor Lawrence
This team will eventually falter due to running back depth. Murray, Henry, Diggs and Brown help this team greatly, but behind Carson as the team’s second running back, things get very thin. One injury could throw off the whole season.
Team 4
Roster: QB Lamar Jackson, RB Alvin Kamara, RB Clyde Edwards-Heliare, WR Mike Evans, WR Allen Robinson, TE Tyler Higbee, RB Gus Edwards, Washington D/ST, K Matt Gay, WR Tee Higgins, WR Laviska Shenault, RB Darrell Henderson Jr., WR Jaylen Waddle, RB Michael Carter, WR Marquez Callaway, WR Terrace Marshall Jr.
Team 4 will likely make the playoffs barring disaster. Kamara and Edwards-Helaire are a good one-two punch, while waiting and snagging Mike Evans and Allen Robinson was a good strategy. Having Gus Edwards after the J.K. Dobbins injury to go with Darrell Henderson gives this team good running back depth. Add Lamar Jackson to the mix and the team has a lot of potential.
Team 5
Roster: QB Russell Wilson, RB Saquon Barkley, RB Joe Mixon, WR CeeDee Lamb, WR Keenan Allen, TE Kyle Pitts, WR D.J. Moore, Ravens D/ST, K Younghoe Koo, WR Brandin Cooks, WR Michael Thomas, RB Sony Michel, RB James Conner, QB Matthew Stafford, RB Devin Singletary, RB Alexander Mattison
This team is banking on Lamb or Allen to play like a WR1. If they can get that, they will be fine. They’ll also need Barkley and Mixon to stay healthy, which is something both have struggled with recently. Kyle Pitts can be an x-factor for this team, but if Michel doesn’t play a huge role in the Rams’ backfield running back depth becomes a question.
Team 6
Roster: QB Tom Brady, RB Austin Ekeler, RB Josh Jacobs, WR Davante Adams, WR Brandon Aiyuk, TE Darren Waller, RB Damien Harris, 49ers D/ST, K Brandon McManus, WR Ja’Marr Chase, WR Michael Gallup, RB Raheem Mostert, RB Kenyan Drake, WR Michael Pittman Jr., RB Nyheim Hines, RB Ty’Son Williams
Team 6 has a solid roster. The team’s success is contingent on a few things: Austin Ekeler staying healthy, Josh Jacobs not being hurt by the Raiders’ acquisition of Kenyan Drake and Brandon Aiyuk stepping up this season. Adams and Waller will really help this team, but the success is tied to the other players panning out.
Team 7
Roster: QB Justin Herbert, RB Najee Harris, RB Chase Edmonds, WR Terry McLaurin, WR Robert Woods, TE Travis Kelce, WR Kenny Golladay, Broncos D/ST, K Jason Myers, WR Jerry Jeudy, WR Marvin Jones Jr., WR Antonio Brown, TE Dallas Goedert, RB Phillip Lindsay, WR Parris Campbell, QB Tua Tagovailoa
This team will not compete because the running back aren’t good enough and there aren’t enough of them. Harris is a good back, but running behind a bad offensive line. Edmonds may split carries with James Conner. The only other running back on the roster is Philip Lindsay, who is playing on the lowly Texans. This team can be a competitor if they flip a wide receiver for a running back or two. Otherwise it could be a long season.
Team 8
Roster: QB Jalen Hurts, RB Nick Chubb, RB Antonio Gibson, WR Amari Cooper, WR Cooper Kupp, TE T.J. Hockenson, RB Miles Sanders, Patriots D/ST, K Graham Gano, RB Myles Gaskin, RB Mike Davis, WR Mike Williams, RB Zack Moss, QB Ryan Tannehill, WR T.Y. Hilton, TE Austin Hooper
Nick Chubb and Antonio Gibson is an excellent combo at running back and the team has great running back depth. Cooper and Kupp provide some solid wide recievers, but more is needed at the position. If Jalen Hurts plays like he is currently projected to, Team 8 will make the playoffs.
Team 9
Roster: QB Josh Allen, RB Ezekiel Elliott, RB Aaron Jones, WR Adam Thielen, WR Odell Beckham Jr., TE George Kittle, WR Will Fuller V, Rams D/ST, K Justin Tucker, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR Deebo Samuel, WR Jarvis Landry, TE Jonnu Smith, RB Jamaal Williams, WR Mecole Hardman, QB Joe Burrow
Team 9 is another team tthat is solid at every position in the starting lineup. Allen is poised for a big year, while Elliot an Jones are good running backs. Thielen and Beckham aren’t WR1s, but having Kittle at tight end more than makes up for that. With only Williams on the bench as a backup running back, the team needs to make a trade.
Team 10
Roster: QB Aaron Rodgers, RB Jonathan Taylor, RB David Montgomery, WR Tyreek Hill, WR Courtland Sutton, TE Mark Andrews, RB James Robinson, Vikings D/ST, K Harrison Butker, WR Diontae Johnson, WR Curtis Samuel, WR Corey Davis, TE Mike Gesicki, RB Trey Sermon, TE Evan Engram, WR Darnell Mooney
The last team to pick has a balanced roster. With Taylor at running back and Hill at wide receiver, they have a big point-scorer at each position. The depth also isn’t bad, as Montgomery, Robinson and Sermon are good running backs and Sutton, Johnson, Samuel, Davis and Mooney all have good upsid. Team 10 will compete for a playoff spot.
