In a battle royale world with PUBG and Fortnite, it is hard to think of more ways to do a BR style game. Black Ops 4 let us preview a new unique way to use this game style. However, there is also another game titled Ring of Elysium that has its’ own special twists on the gaming concept.
Ring of Elysium is a battle royale style game that just released in early access. You are trapped on a snowy mountain and your only goal is to escape. You are trying to fill one of four seats on a rescue helicopter in order to survive and win. This means that you could frequently win this game with zero kills, changing the objective from that of most other battle royale games on the market.
Another quality that sets this game apart is the lack of an entry vehicle. You will not be flying in on a plane or a bus. Rather, you will simply be spawning in at place of your choosing. This eliminates the possibility of the player knowing where other people are flying to or plan to land at.
This game does include gun-play and looting experiences that are more common to battle royale type games. You can choose to fight any enemies that you come across while making your way to the safe zone. This safe zone is an area of the map that will have habitable temperatures where you can survive. All areas outside of this zone will have frostbite ridden temperatures, sending you to your eminent death.
The idea of needing to escape frozen areas will make you want to use a faster modes of transportation than just your legs. You would always just grab the nearest car, right? Wrong. This game allows you to move in ways such as snowboarding, hand gliding and even climbing up mountains. This is a special feature that belongs to this game, and I enjoy the creativity these modes of transportation allow.
Ring of Elysium is entertaining to play and also to watch. I would encourage you to check it out on Steam for PC. One of the best features of this game is that it is free to play. The developers stated that it will continue to be free to play even after early access is over. So go ahead and check it out for yourself!
