The Game Haus will be analyzing the Madden 19 ratings of every NFL team. Madden has a daunting task of rating all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct some of these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. This article will examine the Seattle Seahawks Madden 19 ratings.
Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson is criminally underrated. His 92 overall rating slates him as the third best quarterback in the game. I don’t take issue with him being third, it’s his proximity to Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers that is the problem. Wilson’s athleticism and play making ability are among the league’s best. It should translate to a more favorable rating.
If Rodgers’ ability to extend plays contributes to his 99 rating, then it should absolutely lead to a higher rating for Wilson. It’s hard to picture his rating changing drastically, as his diminishing supporting cast will not lead to increased production. Wilson’s ability to be a one-man offense warrants a higher overall rating.
Tyler Lockett
While Lockett has shown promise throughout his career, his overall rating of 82 is not an honest assessment. He’s never had a season of more than 60 catches for 700 yards. In fairness, Lockett has never been targeted more than 71 times, so catching 60 passes is an unreasonable expectation. However, that becomes the expectation when you have the same overall rating as Devin Funchess, Ted Ginn Jr. and Rishard Matthews. Those players either have multiple seasons of six or more touchdowns, or, multiple seasons of 700 yards receiving. This is not to belittle Locket’s ability. It’s just about his rating in relation to other players in his tier. If those players mentioned have an 82 overall rating, Lockett shouldn’t.
K.J. Wright
One of the more underappreciated defensive players in the NFL continues to get disrespected. Wright’s 83 overall rating is not an egregious error, but one that should be noted. Wright’s rating makes him tied with Thomas Davis for the 17th best outside linebacker. It’s hard to say Wright isn’t better than Davis, especially when you consider Davis’ age and injury history. Not to mention, players like Anthony Barr and Nigel Bradham who have not been nearly as consistent have an 84 and 85 rating respectively. It’s hard to get the full respect you deserve when playing with a star like Bobby Wagner, but Wright deserves a higher rating.
Adjusted Ratings
Russell Wilson – 95 Overall
Tyler Lockett – 80 Overall
K.J. Wright – 86 Overall
