In a press release, the LCS has announced that their Summer Split Finals will be held in Detroit at the Little Caesar’s Arena, August 24-25. This will be the first trip to Detroit for the LCS. With this announcement is also a new partnership with Rocket Mortgage as they will sponsor the event. Tickets will go on sale June 18.
This won’t be Rocket Mortgage’s first foray into esports as they are also a partner of 100 Thieves. This is due to their connection with Dan Gilbert who is the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and also a part owner of 100 Thieves. He has deep connections with Detroit which may explain why Rocket Mortgage is involved.
“After the amazing activations that Rocket Mortgage has unveiled over the last year and a half as a partner of 100 Thieves, we are looking forward to an amazing show in Detroit, and a one-of-a-kind experience for our fans at the event,” said Chris Greeley, LCS Commissioner.
This is major news for a few reasons. To start the LCS will be heading to the middle of the United States for the second time this year after having their Spring Split Finals in St. Louis. Also, the fact that it is two days shows that they will be going back to the old system prior to the Spring Finals. Last Split there was no third and fourth place match but it appears as though it will be coming back.
The winner of this Finals automatically gets a bid to Worlds so many teams will be fighting for it. After a great run at MSI Team Liquid go into the Summer Split as favorites. The LCS starts back up tomorrow at 5pm est.
