Division A matches have come to a close, and there were certainly plenty of surprises and thrills. Many things changed from the first week of action, so let’s break that down here.
New Division Leaders
One of the biggest talking points surrounds new Division A top dogs, Gen.G. Finishing the fortnight with a very impressive 6-1 record, they only dropped a series to previous leaders Midnight Esports. Their strong Search and Destroy performances, finishing with a flawless 9-0, helped to give this squad the edge, as well as the performances of key player Chance ‘Maux’ Moncivaez. He finishes the Division with a second highest 1.23 Kill/Death ratio, with his efforts earning him a spot in the SCUF Gaming Team of the Week.
Gen.G’s solid performances have left many fans wondering how well they will perform at the upcoming CWL Fort Worth Major, with many predicting as high as a top four finish for the squad. If they can maintain their momentum in the coming weeks, this squad could certainly cause upsets for the best teams in the game.
Luminosity Gaming Fight Back
When CWL caster Clint ‘Maven’ Evans predicted a 3-1 week for Luminosity on MLG’s Trading Shots, he was ridiculed by fellow analysts and casters. A loss to Gen.G on Monday night painted a rather bleak picture for the squad, but they answered back emphatically by winning three series in a row. What is more impressive is that in the streak they took down second place Midnight and third placed OpTic Gaming, in a thrilling game five, round eleven victory. One of the key contributors for their better week was the much-improved performance out of Josiah ‘Slacked’ Berry. Finishing the week with a much improved 0.99 K/D, his performances helped LG to secure a 3-4 record and his place in the SCUF Gaming Team of the Week.
The Peaks and Troughs of Team Reciprocity
Of all the teams in Division A, it is safe to say none are more inconsistent than Team Reciprocity. The squad came out hot on Monday night, winning 3-2 over then leaders, Midnight. What followed was shockingly poor performances against UYU and previously win-less Evil Geniuses to leave the lineup with a seventh placed 2-5 record. Their inconsistency is underpinned by the fact they had a double positive record in Search and Destroy over the two weeks, but an abysmal 4-16 record in respawn game modes. Perhaps still adapting to life in the US, this lineup will have to sort out their respawn frailties quickly to have any chance of improving as a team.
Evil Geniuses Rock Bottom
Almost finishing the fortnight win-less, Evil Geniuses managed to pull out a win against a struggling Team Reciprocity to finish the Division with a 1-6 record. The team’s performance at the Pro League is a world away from the impressive 5-1 record they held in gaining automatic qualification via the Qualifier. Interestingly, the squad are positive in Hardpoint match ups, but an atrocious 0-8 record and 1-6 record in Search and Destroy and Control, respectively, spell misery for the lineup. Three out of the five player roster find themselves occupying the bottom three K/D spots in Search and Destroy, with none of the players breaking even. Coach and Call of Duty veteran John ‘Revan’ Boble has a lot of work on his hands to get this team ready for further Competitive matches.
