In the last patch and update, Call of Duty, Activision(Publisher), Raven Software(Developer), and Infinity Ward(Developer) decided to initiate and implement an anti-cheat software system. This is the RICOCHET anti-cheat system. With that, Call of Duty also decided to take additional precautions by adding new Warzone anti-cheat measures to combat more cheaters.
What is the RICOCHET System?
For starters, RICOCHET is not a system most people have heard of. It was a system created by a special team in order to fight against unfair play. According to Call of Duty, it is a multi-faceted approach to combat cheating, featuring new server-side tools which monitor analytics to identify cheating, enhanced investigation processes to stamp out cheaters, updates to strengthen account security, and more.
What are the Measures?
One such measure being made is that there will be a new “damage shield” for players that are the enemy if there is a cheater in their lobby. This is very exciting considering that there already have been a large number of cheaters banned from the game. This, in turn, could cause a lot of players to not be so scared when they notice a cheater in the lobby.
The Streamers Reaction
Unfortunately, the reception is pretty much the same as far as the streamers’ reactions. Many streamers such as DrDisrespect and NickMercs are still wary when it comes to playing Warzone. They are not alone when it comes to going back to playing Warzone more. They do still play, on occasion, however, they still try not to play it as much as it is growing old and not fun due to the cheaters and such.
The Pro Reaction
A lot of the pros love to play Warzone such as Scump and Shotzzy. However, ever since ranked play came out this week, players continue to not play Warzone as much. It is highly unfortunate as the only time Warzone has a lot of views is when there is a tournament. There are a lot of views to be made when it comes to streaming it.
The Casual Player Reaction
This is probably where this anti-cheat software is great. For casual players, Warzone might appeal to them more as there are little to no cheaters that take the fun out of playing the game. It is very crazy to see when it comes to this game. Many casual fans within the community are starting to go back to Warzone. Especially players who casually play Apex Legends and Fortnite.
Conclusion
Overall, this is huge for the Call of Duty scene and community, specifically the Warzone community. This is something that the players of this beloved game have been asking for a while. So there is a chance that it could be too late to get players back into Warzone. However, this type of change is better than no change at all. Something that Call of Duty players is used to.
