The Minnesota Rokkr will have some time off to prepare for battle in Atlanta later this month, after getting a good glimpse at them during Launch Weekend. Between all of the game modes being played (Hardpoint, Domination, Search and Destroy), where did they play at their very best?
Overall they played well in most areas, and some surprise performances helped them along the way with GodRx and Alexxx. As impressive they were all weekend, winning both of their games, it doesn’t mean they don’t have some hiccups to fix either.
However, starting off with the positives is the best thing, as they overshadowed the negative. The mode they conquered the most, is the one they played the most as well.
Hardpoint (Strongest performance):
Hardpoint, was where the Rokkr asserted most of their dominance all weekend. Although it was a scary beginning against the Los Angeles Guerillas where they fell 250-169, they rebounded.
In fact, they wouldn’t lose another Hardpoint map the rest of the way, going 3-0. Most impressive was their whopping 250-125 victory on their final map.
The first Hardpoint match against Toronto was a nail-biter, but the Rokkr hung in there and pulled it off although the Ultra would get revenge in Search and Destroy. Dominating Hardpoint in the last match was an understatement.
Only the Atlanta Faze’ 250-122 victory over the New York Subliners in their second Hardpoint match was a bigger piece of destruction. That said, one may argue that Toronto has a better team than New York.
They were coming off of a solid 3-2 win against the Seattle Surge before taking on the Rokkr to close out the long weekend. So there was some pressure going into the match, but thanks to the play of GodRx as well as some big plays from Assult, the door was slammed shut.
Search and Destroy (Weakest Performance):
One mode they need to improve on however is Search and Destroy. They only had two games of SnD but lost both of them.
A stroke of luck came their way when the Guerillas were caught with an illegal item. This caused them to get their win stripped from them and handed to the Rokkr but essentially, they won.
The battle of the North between the Rokkr and Ultra also saw Minnesota failing in SnD, as they lost 6-3. In that map, they didn’t have a chance and were down early.
They’d tried to make a push, but it was simply too late. Luckily for them, their stellar play in Hardpoint was used to their advantage to finish off the Ultra.
Conclusion
Although they weren’t as dominant in Domination (no pun intended) as they were in Hardpoint, they still were fair. They beat the Guerillas 192-174, followed by a 188-172 victory over the Ultra.
If the Rokkr can figure out strategies to win SnD matchups, they can be a threat in the Call of Duty League this season. However, if they continue to struggle, then it could come back to haunt them.
Fortunately for them, they have the soft cushion of being one of the best Hardpoint teams in the league. This will give them an advantage to take early leads if they continue to play their cards right.
A big test will be handed to the team as they leave the comforts of Minnesota to prepare for battle in Atlanta. Question is: will they be able to ace the test?
