Watching the Call of Duty League can be an overwhelming experience for new viewers to the scene. With multiple game modes and weapons, there is a lot to take in as the fast paced game is played. This article will be a guide to helping new viewers understand what is going on during the match and become the next Call of Duty League super fan.
Overview
Call of Duty is a first-person shooter that pits two teams of five players against each other. These teams will battle in multiple game modes using teamwork and individual skill to beat the opposing squad. Each player builds their own sets of weapons and perks before the match that they can switch in between lives. These perks give the players different boosts and advantages that can make a big difference in certain situations.
Gun Types
Call of Duty features many types of guns including shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles and many more. For the competitive scene, two weapon types are used almost exclusively due to their numerous strengths and minimal weaknesses. These weapon types are submachine guns and assault rifles.
Submachine Guns
These weapons give players the upper hand in close quarters gun fights. Their fast rate of fire and high damage output allows players to easily kill the other team and attack the objective. The most common submachine gun viewers will see in a competitive match will be the MP5. This gun has proven to be the most effective due to its light weight and high damage output in close-range situations.
Assault Rifles
These weapons open players up to a whole new playstyle. Rather than running into objectives and rushing the opponent, players using these weapons will keep their distance from their opposition. The assault rifle has a high damage output at longer ranges which their submachine guns lack. The most common assault rifle viewers will see in a competitive match will be the M4. This weapon dominates in long range situations and allows players to lock down lanes on a map to aid in playing the objective.
Game Modes
Hardpoint
Hardpoint is a respawn game mode that has players fight over control of a rotating objective around the map. Once a player is inside the objective, they earn points for their team. The first team to reach 250 points wins the map. However, if players from both teams are inside the objective, it becomes contested and neither team earns points. This fan favorite game mode will keep viewers on the edge of their seats with a lot of action and different strategies.
Search and Destroy
This game mode will look familiar if you are a fan of CS:GO. Each team fights over two bomb sites, one team attempts to defend the objective while another attacks. The attacking side looks to plant the bomb at either objective and stop the defending side from defusing the bomb. The defending side tries to stop the attacking team by defusing the bomb before it detonates. Each side can also win a round by killing every opponent before time runs out. Each team alternates from defending to attacking every round until one team wins six rounds. This game mode has a slower pace and requires a bit more thinking and strategy.
Domination
Domination is the final game mode in the competitive rule set. Each team fights for control of three objectives, or flags, that gives them points every few seconds. This map is split into two rounds that are six minutes each. The strategy to win here is to control at least two flags at once to out gain your opponent in points. This game mode has made appearances in previous Call of Duty titles and has already provided some exciting respawn battles.
Where to Watch
The Call of Duty League is exclusively streamed on YouTube. The deal was made a few days before the season began and should remain there for the remainder of the season.
