How the Los Angeles Guerrillas won CDL Major 2

Publish Date: April 4, 2022

Call of Duty is just amazing isn’t it? After losing their first match and being sent down to losers round one any LA Guerrillas fans would have been fearing the worst. But after seven consecutive wins in a row, including a dominant 5-2 victory in the final against Atlanta FaZe fans saw the Los Angeles Guerrillas win CDL Major 2. Here’s a look at how they completed the miracle.

The Volk Superstar

It’s never easy being a substitute in the CDL. Coming in for a game is hard enough, let alone the whole tournament. But this was no problem for Kris “Spart” Cervantez who filled in for Gunless. After having a 1.15 K/D despite losing to Boston, Spart decided to make history.

Against Toronto, in the first losers round Spart pulled out the Volk. This was the first time fans had seen a different gun from the usual MP40 and Automaton. Spart fried with the gun on Tuscan control raking up a 1.41 K/D. Throughout the tournament, Volks were used more often and that is all because of him.

Spart was t16 in challengers just over a week ago and put to bed his brief spell on the LAG team in Modern Warfare. Overall achieving MVP throughout the tournament, fans are sure to see him in the future of the league, even if LAG keeps Gunless moving forward.

Strength in Search and Destroy

Search and destroy wins championships. After LAG lost their first two searches, they probably feared the worst moving forward. However, after beating FaZe in three searches, they had acclimated 10 wins in a row in that game mode, which is a CDL record.

With a team that has a substitute to be so good at search is unbelievable and LAG deserve a lot of credit with their mid-match adjustments. Big shoutouts must go to Obaid “Asim” Asim whose brilliant strategy calls helped win a lot of these maps with him arguably missing out on MVP.

The Veterans Step up in Finals

LAG needed some composure and experience when it came to the final against FaZe. With Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat and Cuyler “Huke” Garland struggling at the start of the season, it was finally time for them to step up.

Both being world champions, they turned up in the final and took care of business. SlasheR producing a 1.17 K/D and Huke producing an outstanding 1.24 K/D throughout the seven matches in 5-2 win. They helped the newer players get their first championship with the experience they have.

LAG first Championship win

This amazing loser’s bracket run marks the first win as an organization for LA Guerrillas. After two years of struggling near the bottom of the table, they finally got a win to take home and it came under the most unlikely of circumstances.

LAG become the first team to win an event with a sub in the CDL era. The mark of a great event and overall, an amazing major reminding everyone of why they love the CDL.
