The Call of Duty League community is facing another possible shock within the league after the recent news of Obaid “Asim” Asim most likely not being able to attend the upcoming LAN major for stage 4. This past week was huge when it comes to crazy news with the Call of Duty League. One being that Asim has recently announced on Twitter that he could possibly not be attending the league’s fourth major in Dallas, Texas due to Visa issues within the league and not being able to come to the United States.
“Heartbroken….as many of you may know, I most likely won’t be able to make it to Major 4,” said Asim. “I won’t go into details but it’s been a huge obstacle for me to overcome knowing I won’t be there when it matters most. Unless by some last-minute miracle, you won’t see me there.”
This recent news coming from Asim could be catastrophic for the New York Subliners as Asim is an essential part of their team which sits second in the Call of Duty League standings.
This, coincidentally, is right before the league is going back to LAN (Land Area Network) events. This is very surprising considering most of the players within the league were expecting to play online for the entire season which is one of the reasons why there are many Visa issues around the league.
The History of Visa Issues
Unfortunately, this is not the first time where a professional Call of Duty player on a top-tier team has had Visa issues coming into the United States for competitions and tournaments. One time, in particular, is when Damon “Karma” Barlow had Visa issues while on OpTic Gaming which caused the team to make sudden roster changes.
Recently, Brandon “Dashy” Otell also had a Visa problem as well this season as well at the Black Ops 4 season when he could not come into the country and compete in major tournaments.
Another, which happened this season, is when Paco “Hydra” Rusiewiez tried to come to the United States for a better connection since he is from France. He also had trouble with his Visa after being added to the squad earlier this season.
These are just some of the past examples that have occurred due to Visa issues. This marks the third time where a player from Canada had Visa issues and hard times coming into the country. This situation, however, could very well shake up this upcoming major which might cause a lot of movement and roster changes.
What to Expect
Currently, the New York Subliners are looking for a fourth. There are three realistic possibilities. One being Doug “Censor” Martin who was on the Subliners team last year, Jacob “Decemate” Cato who was on the Seattle Surge and Thomas “ZooMaa” Paparatto who was also on the Subliners this season before suffering a hand injury.
The best possibility for the Subliners would of course be Asim solving his Visa issues within the league in time for the major, however, it will most likely not occur. This could be bad for the team considering they are playing the third-best team in the league in Toronto who is coming off a hot stage four. Who knows what this could mean for the second-best team in the league with a chance at winning the first LAN event in a year.
