At the start of the season, many pros, journalists, and fans within the Call of Duty League were really excited to see the usual suspects such as FaZe, OpTic, and Ultra. However, there is one team that nobody saw coming to be good. That team is the Royal Ravens. A team that could already start off the season 4-1 begs the question, is the London Royal Ravens legit?
The First Season (Modern Warfare)
The first two seasons within the Call of Duty League were not great for the London Royal Ravens Franchise. In the first year, they ended up 6th place in the league at 12-14. This, in turn, only boasting one final in the year, losing it. The main point was that they did end up getting 4th place at the Call of Duty Championship. The year was promising, but the franchise wanted more. It was enough to make big changes.
The Second Year (Cold War)
After changes were made in regards to the roster, it was all downhill from there. Two of the focal points of the previous year, Skarpz and Wuskin, ended up getting dropped from the team. In that, London never got to one single final in the year. They ended up 10th at the end of the year, not making the playoffs. The team also had a 9-23 record within the league. All of this was bad, yes, however, they did find a gem. That gem is Afro.
This Year (Vanguard)
Centered around Afro, they ended up adding Nastie and Gismo, two young and talented players within the challenger’s division. The franchise decided to pair the three young players with Call of Duty veteran, Zer0. The majority of the players within this team were unproven, which caused the league to question where their place might be within the league this year.
Kickoff Classic
The Kickoff Classic showed the usual play from a London Royal Ravens squad. This is due to the fact that they lost in the first round of play as they lost badly to, who is now the number 2 team in the world in the Seattle Surge.
Major 1 Qualifying
However, when the league officially started with the Major 1 Qualifying, the London Royal Ravens showed, what looks to be, the true and possible final form. This is the fact that they started out 3-0 beating the likes of teams such as OpTic and the Minnesota ROKKR. Even though the team lost to the Los Angeles Guerillas, the team does have a final test in a rematch versus the Surge this week before the major.
Possible Implications for the Year
There are many implications for the team as a whole. One implication is that they can contend for a World Championship this year. This is due to the fact that the league, as of right now, is up in the air when it comes to who are the best teams in the league. In the coming weeks, however, we will be able to see if the London Royal Ravens are legit this year.
