There are many questions that need to be addressed as the Call of Duty Season for Cold War comes to a close. One question, in particular, relates to the competitive integrity of the players on bottom-tier teams. That question being, are teams still trying even after poor placements.
This question has been on many people’s minds within the Call of Duty community as the bottom-tier teams are showing little to no improvement at all while also showing glimpses of some players not actually trying during matches.
This, consequently, led to a lot of people believing that the bottom-tier teams are not trying after their tough seasons since there are no ways for them to get into playoffs which is not good for the league itself.
The Seattle Surge
The situation with the Surge has been the same for the past two seasons, we have one all-star who wants to play and other players that do not. That all-star being Sam “Octane” Larew. He has had ten different teammates in the last two seasons and has shown no improvement over any of the stages.
The team had several last-place finishes and only one finish where they placed at least top six in the league in one of the majors. Currently, all is not well with the team as the Surge have yet again started winless in this stage five.
Paris Legion
The Paris Legion has also been one of those teams where it seems like they quit on their season after placing similar to the Surge having multiple last-place finishes as well. This is even after their star, Temp, came onto the team which was supposed to be an improvement, which it was not.
Currently, the team sits next to the last place in the overall standings and is still struggling in this stage five. In one of the matches, some players on the Legion are actually shown to slow play a lot at points in time in which they claimed were connection issues.
Los Angeles Guerrillas
The Los Angeles Guerillas were set to be a mid-tier team along with the likes of the Minnesota Rokkr and Florida Mutineers. However, the team has struggled to find their footing as their star, Apathy, and his teammates struggle to get any top finish in any of the stages.
Their biggest win being against the best team in the league FaZe made a bunch of headlines saying that the team was ready to be a super team. However, it never came to be as they failed to get top placement in the past four stages.
London Royal Ravens
Even after picking up rookies in Zaptius and Paulehx, the London Royal Ravens, who were set to be a great European powerhouse, struggled in nearly every stage as they were denied of even a top-six finish in multiple stages.
After many moves, such as adding stellar talent in Afro, the team was set to hit the restart button to make their fans think that they had a shot at the championship. Only to place just the same as they did the previous stages.
Overall, all is not well for the leagues bottom tier teams as fans are thinking that they are not even trying due to such poor play by their players. Which begs the question of the championship format. Since only eight go, there is no real incentive for the bottom-tier teams to even play which could be the reason to why it seems like they are not trying.
