The last time Atlanta was seen they had beaten the undefeated NYXL and then lost to the Charge. Ever since Daniel “dafran” Francesca retired the Reign have been trying to find their footing again. With their win against the NYXL it is clear that they have the pieces, but they need to put them together correctly. Hopefully a week off while teams went to Dallas is enough for Atlanta to get some more issues resolved as they prepare for their last game of the Stage and their second in a row against the NYXL.
Week 5:
New York Excelsior (5-1) 12-1
The NYXL will likely be looking for revenge after Atlanta ruined their perfect regular season. This time they will also have had an extra week to prepare for Donghyung “DACO” Seo and Andrej “babybay” Francisty as both players made a huge difference in their initial meeting. Atlanta need both players to have a great series in order to pull off the win.
While not mathematically eliminated, the Atlanta Reign will need to not only pull off the miracle sweep in this series, but also get some help from quite a few other teams in order to make the playoffs. Going into this game they will need to have a trick up their sleeves; or they need their mirror matchups as strong as they were in their last meeting. While counting Atlanta out of this game would be foolish, the odds of them winning a second time are still stacked against them.
Prediction: Atlanta loses 1-3
Player to Watch: Dusttin “Dogman” Bowerman”
The Zenyatta battle with Bang “JJonak” Sung-hyeon is always going to be a tough matchup for any player. Last time Dogman seemed to be able to keep up with him and has been performing very well overall. Along with sporting his new bowl haircut, Dogman will need to understand that it is not necessarily about beating JJonak. Instead he just needs to keep up with him and minimize the damage and overall effect he is having on the game. If Dogman is unable to do this and starts getting picked off by the 2018 MVP or wastes his transcendence, then the Atlanta Reign could be in quite a bit of trouble.
