North Carolina is firing head coach football Mack Brown according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Brown will coach in the team’s season finale against NC State, but it has not been reported whether Brown will coach in a bowl game.
In two stints at North Carolina, he had a 113-78-1 record. This season, the Tar Heels are 6-5. He also was the head coach at Tulane and Texas. Brown won the national championship with Texas in 2005 and has a 282-149-1 record as a college head coach.
With Brown’s retirement, only two active head coaches have won national championships, Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney.
