Fickell has been Cincinnati’s head coach since 2017. Through his four seasons as a head coach, he has a record of 48-14 and two AAC titles. Now, he becomes the first coach to take a non-Group of 5 team to the four team CFP.
Cincinnati became the first non-Power 5 team to break into the college football playoff. They had an undefeated 2021 season, with wins over ranked Notre Dame, SMU and Houston in the AAC Championship Game. Cincinnati will join Houston, BYU and UCF in the Big 12 in 2023.
