Luke Fickell named Home Depot Coach of the Year

Luke Fickell coach of the year

University of Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell has been named the Home Depot Coach of the Year in college football. This is Fickell’s first Coach of the Year award win. He led the Bearcats to an undefeated 2021 season.

College football insider Brett McMurphy reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.

Fickell has been Cincinnati’s head coach since 2017. Through his four seasons as a head coach, he has a record of 48-14 and two AAC titles. Now, he becomes the first coach to take a non-Group of 5 team to the four team CFP.

Cincinnati became the first non-Power 5 team to break into the college football playoff. They had an undefeated 2021 season, with wins over ranked Notre Dame, SMU and Houston in the AAC Championship Game. Cincinnati will join Houston, BYU and UCF in the Big 12 in 2023.
