College Football has now officially come back. Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most his who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology September 20.
CFP Four
1. Miami Hurricanes (2-0)
The Miami Hurricanes showed that they have some life this year with their win over Louisville. D’Eriq King has been able to lead a high-powered offense and their win is the most impressive of the year. There is hope for Miami this year in the ACC, but it will still be an uphill battle with Clemson in the league.
Next week: vs. Florida State Seminoles (0-1)
2. Marshall Thundering Herd (2-0)
Marshall defeated a ranked Appalachian State team in week 3. Their defense was particularly impressive, as they won 17-7. Not many teams have ranked wins under their belts, so Marshall deserves to be ranked highly, for now. They also beat Eastern Kentucky earlier in the year.
Next week: BYE
3. Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (2-0)
It took overtime, but Louisiana was able to beat Georgia State on the road. That gives them two road wins on the early season. In week 2, they defeated Iowa State for one of the best wins of the season so far. Once more teams play bigger games, Louisiana will drop in these rankings, but for now they have a good resume.
Next week: vs. Georgia Southern Eagles (1-0)
4. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (2-0)
After defeating Kansas in week 2, Coastal Carolina followed it up with a win over FCS-level Campbell. They won 43-21, playing well throughout the game. Their win on the road over Kansas was impressive, but like Louisiana, they will start to drop in the rankings, once better wins are put up by other teams.
Next week: BYE
First Four Out
5. UCF Golden Knights (1-0)
In their season opener, the Golden Knights defeated Georgia Tech 49-21. It was an impressive road win, especially given that Georgia Tech was coming off a win over Florida State.
Next week: at ECU Pirates (0-0)
6. Clemson Tigers (2-0)
The team that has looked the most impressive this season has been Clemson. They dominated Wake Forest in the opener, then made easy work of The Citadel. If these rankings were solely on eye-test, Clemson would have the top spot.
Next week: BYE
7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-0)
The Fighting Irish had a lackluster performance in their win against Duke, but they played well from the first snap against USF. They won 52-0 and look like they will be able to compete in the ACC this season.
Next week: at Wake Forest Demon Deacons
8. BYU Cougars (1-0)
BYU’s game against Army was postponed this week, but they gave Navy a beating on Labor Day. That win looks better now that Navy upset Tulane on a last-second field goal.
Next week: vs. Troy Trojans (1-0)
Next Four Out
9. NC State Wolfpack (1-0)
NC State won a barn-burner against Wake Forest on Saturday night, 45-42. The important thing is that they got the win and their offense showed they can put up points.
Next week: at Virginia Tech Hokies (0-0)
10. North Carolina Tar Heels (1-0)
Although their game against Charlotte was canceled this weekend, North Carolina still looked impressive in week 2 against Syracuse in their lone game of the season.
Next week: BYE
11. Pittsburgh Panthers (2-0)
Pitt beat Austin Peay in week 2 and won their game against Syracuse this weekend 21-10. It is still early, but Pitt has taken care of business.
Next week: vs. Louisville Cardinals (1-1)
12. Boston College Eagles (1-0)
They were six-point underdogs against Duke this weekend, but the Eagles dominated, winning 26-6. Boston College looks like they have a star in Phil Jurkovec at quarterback and are off to a good start to the season.
Next week: vs. Texas State Bobcats (1-2)
