Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology November 21.
CFP Four
1. Georgia Bulldogs (11-0)
Georgia had a cakewalk over Charleston Southern, winning 56-7. As mentioned in previous weeks, Georgia will stay at number one until they lose.
This week: at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-8)
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (10-1)
Alabama had a close one with Arkansas, but held on to win 42-35. They will likely hold the number two spot after getting another ranked win, but Ohio State won’t be too far behind them. Ultimately, if they win out, they are probably in the CFP. If they don’t, they are likely out.
This week: at Auburn Tigers (6-5)
3. Ohio State Buckeyes (10-1)
Ohio State didn’t just beat a top 10 team, they destroyed Michigan State and led 49-0 at halftime. Their offense is extremely tough to match up with and they have one of the best wins of the season now under their resume, which helps them jump up to third in the rankings to go along with Oregon’s loss.
This week: at Michigan Wolverines (10-1)
4. Cincinnati Bearcats (11-0)
Cincinnati finally moves into the top four after Oregon lost. The Bearcats defeated an eight-win SMU team 48-14. The win over Notre Dame is still really helping out their resume, but with so many teams that will fall off over the next two weeks, the Bearcats should be in if they win out.
This week: at ECU Pirates (7-4)
First Four Out
5. Michigan Wolverines (10-1)
Michigan blew out Maryland as they prepare for their meeting with Ohio State. They don’t really have a marquee win, but they control their own destiny if they win out. That will be easier said than done.
This week: vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (10-0)
6. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-1)
It wasn’t a competitive game for the Fighting Irish, as they demolished Georgia Tech 55-0. Their schedule wasn’t the toughest, but they do have a win over Wisconsin under their belts. What is holding them back is their loss to Cincinnati at home, which makes it hard to rank the Fighting Irish higher, and they will not play in a conference championship game to improve their resume in the final week.
This week: at Stanford Cardinal (3-8)
7. Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-1)
Getting a win over Texas Tech keeps the CFP hopes alive for Oklahoma State. They move up due to losses by Michigan State and Oregon. With a game against Oklahoma and the Big 12 Championship Game looming, the Cowboys will be hoping for all the help they can get.
This week: vs. Oklahoma Sooners (10-1)
8. Baylor Bears (9-2)
Baylor took care of business against Kansas State to go to 9-2 on the season. After defeating Oklahoma a week before the Kansas State game, the Bears should stay ahead of them and move up a couple of spots with teams losing.
This week: vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-5)
Next Four Out
9. Oklahoma Sooners (10-1)
With other teams losing and Oklahoma getting a win over Iowa State in week 12, the Sooners should move up in the rankings. They have a game against Oklahoma State and a possible Big 12 Championship Game to try to prove they belong in the CFP, but they still are a longshot.
This week: at Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-1)
10. Oregon Ducks (9-2)
Oregon will free fall in the rankings this week. They were absolutely dominated by Utah for their second loss of the season. Losing to Stanford also looks so much worse now that the Cardinal are just 3-8.
This week: vs. Oregon State Beavers (7-4)
11. Michigan State Spartans (9-2)
Michigan State also did not have a good day Saturday. They were losing to Ohio State by 49 at halftime and then the Buckeyes coasted to victory. The win over Michigan helps keep them in the top 12 and gives them a shot at a New Year’s Six Bowl.
This week: vs. Penn State Nittany Lions (7-4)
12. Ole Miss Rebels (9-2)
A victory over Vanderbilt puts another one in the win column, but won’t impress the committee. They’ll likely still rank 12th or move up just one spot, but they are in play for a New Year’s Six Bowl.
This week: at Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-4)
