Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology November 20.
CFP Four
1. Georgia Bulldogs (11-0)
Georgia didn’t play their best against Kentucky, but they were able to get the win. With all the other top contenders struggling, Georgia will keep their top spot for at least another week.
This week: vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (4-7)
2. Ohio State Buckeyes (11-0)
The Buckeyes had to pull away late with a defensive touchdown, but it wasn’t an easy game against Maryland. They got the win and have the resume to stay at the second spot in the rankings.
This week: vs. Michigan Wolverines (11-0)
3. Michigan Wolverines (11-0)
Michigan defeated Illinois thanks a late field goal. They did not look good and star running back Blake Corum was injured, but the important thing is they left the game unbeaten. They’ll have to win next week at Ohio State to ensure a CFP appearance is still on the table, as their nonconference schedule is still holding them back.
This week: at Ohio State Buckeyes (11-0)
4. TCU Horned Frogs (11-0)
TCU also needed a game-winning field goal to beat Baylor, but theirs was as time expired. The Horned Frogs seem to be able to find different ways to win games this season. They may need to win next week against Iowa State and win the Big 12 Championship, as they have teams on their heels.
This week: vs. Iowa State (4-7)
First Four Out
5. LSU Tigers (9-2)
LSU defeated UAB to keep their hopes of making the CFP alive. They’ll have to defeat Texas A&M and then Georgia in the SEC Championship to have a shot, but they’ll also likely need some help.
This week: at Texas A&M Aggies (4-7)
6. USC Trojans (10-1)
USC’s defense didn’t play well, but the offense covered for them once again, as they defeated UCLA 48-45. The win and Tennessee’s loss helps USC move closer to a playoff spot. If they win out, they should be in the CFP.
This week: vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-3)
7. Clemson Tigers (10-1)
Clemson had no issue with Miami and have kept themselves alive in the College Football Playoff race. They move up a few spots because Tennessee’s loss will move the Volunteers down, but also will make Alabama’s loss to them look a little worse. They still will likely need some help to make it to the playoff.
This week: vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (7-4)
8. Tennessee Volunteers (9-2)
The Volunteers were blown out on the road against South Carolina. With the loss, the Volunteers are out of the playoff picture, but still will have to be ranked over Alabama after beating them head-to-head.
This week: at Vanderbilt Commodores (5-6)
Next Four Out
9. Alabama Crimson Tide (9-2)
Defeating Austin Peay won’t move Alabama up the rankings. They might be jumped by Clemson, as the Tigers have just one loss and looked good defeating Miami. The Crimson Tide will still be behind Tennessee most likely with their loss to the Volunteers being the major reason why.
This week: vs. Auburn Tigers (5-6)
10. Oregon Ducks (9-2)
Oregon got a late-night win over Utah, 20-17. While they are out of the CFP race, the Ducks just need to beat Oregon State to qualify for the Pac-12 Championship Game.
This week: at Oregon State Beavers (8-3)
11. Penn State Nittany Lions (9-2)
Penn State defeated Rutgers easily to get their ninth win of the season. They have two good losses, to Ohio State and Michigan, but they don’t exactly have great wins. Either way, if they win in week 13, they are headed to a New Year’s Six Bowl.
This week: vs. Michigan State Spartans (5-6)
12. Kansas State Wildcats (8-3)
Kansas State won a shootout, at least for the first half, against West Virginai 48-31. With the win and other teams losing, they make their way back into the top 12. They are in play for a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.
This week: vs. Kansas Jayhawks (6-5)
