The 2024 Pinstripe Bowl features the 7-5 Boston College Eagles against the 6-6 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Here is the 2024 Pinstripe Bowl Preview.
Boston College Eagles
Boston College won seven games to make a bowl game in Bill O’Brien’s first year as head coach. They defeated four teams who qualified for bowl games this season: Western Michigan, Syracuse, UNC and Pitt. Their lone loss to a team that didn’t make a bowl game was to Virginia.
The Eagles score 29.3 points per game, ranking 60th in the country. They pass for 190.8 yards (ranked 106th) and rush for 176.3 yards per game (ranked 47th).
Grayson James took over at quarterback late in the season for the Eagles. He has passed for 901 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions on 61.5 percent completion. Five players had at least 200 receiving yards on the season for Boston College. Lewis Bond has been the leading receiver with 60 catches for 590 yards and three touchdowns.
The rushing attack features four players who tallied over 200 rushing yards on the season. Kyle Robichaux leads the team with 725 yards and 10 touchdowns. Treshaun Ward has been impactful as well with 406 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Eagles allow 24.1 points per game, ranking 62nd in the country. They allow 246.9 passing yards and 113.6 rushing yards per game. Donovan Ezeiruaku leads the team with 80 total tackles and 16.5 sacks, but he is opting out of this game to prepare for the NFL. That leaves KP Price with the team lead in tackles at 76 and Quintayvius Hutchins with the team-high in sacks with 3.5. Price has also been impressive against the pass with five passes defended and one interception.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Nebraska won six games to make their first bowl game under Matt Rhule. They defeated two bowl-eligible teams this season: Colorado and Rutgers. Their lone loss to a team that didn’t make a bowl game was to UCLA.
The Cornhuskers score 23.8 points per game, ranked 99th in the country. They pass for 228.1 yards (ranked 66th) and rush for 130.6 yards per game (ranked 95th).
Dylan Raiola has started this season at quarterback as a true freshman. He has passed for 2,595 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 66.6 percent completion. Six receivers have at least 200 yards on the season. Jahmal Banks is the leading receiver with 40 catches for 508 yards and three touchdowns.
Leading rusher Dante Dowdel is in the transfer portal, so the Cornhuskers will look elsewhere for production on the ground. Emmett and Rahmir Johnson will have larger roles after rushing for 523 and 201 yards this season.
Defensively, the Cornhuskers allow 19.8 points per game, ranking 17th in the FBS. They concede 209.7 passing yards and 105.8 rushing yards per game. Isaac Gifford has led the team in tackles from the secondary with 69. Ty Robinson has the team-high with six sacks. Marques Buford Jr. has five passes defended and one interception.
Prediction
Boston College will find it hard to score on Nebraska’s defense. With a lot of key players still suiting up for the Nebraska offense, the Cornhuskers can make strides and put up some points.
