Vince Iwuchukwu, the No. 12 overall recruit in the Class of 2022 according to 247 Sports Composite Rankings, committed to the University of Southern California.
The 7-foot 220 pound big man announced his decision on Instagram Live with NCAA analyst Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Before coming to a decision, Iwuchukwu had narrowed his top schools to UCLA, Baylor, Kansas and Texas.
Before heading out to Los Angeles to play college ball, Iwuchukwu will be finishing out his high school career at powerhouse Montverde Academy of Florida. The center transferred back in June after attending La Lumiere(La Porte, Indiana) for his freshman and sophomore year. Montverde is the reigning GEICO National champions, and they’ll now be getting some height and strength to the roster with the addition of Iwuchukwu. Iwuchukwu will be joining five-star recruit and Kentucky commit Skyy Clark, as the deadly duo will be looking to win back-to-back championships for the program.
Last season at La Lumiere, Iwuchukwu averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. This summer, Iwuchukwu showed out at the Pangos All-American Camp, where he led in scoring, averaging 22 points on 58% shooting. He also averaged 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks a game.
Recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports spoke highly of the prospect, stating he “has a good looking release on his jump shot and developing touch that extends all the way to the three-point line.”
“Iwuchukwu is a fairly raw and mechanical big man prospect with a high upside who has been a steadfast worker and it has helped him make gradual improvement towards his body and skill set,” he continued.
With his decision set, Vince Iwuchukwu is the highest-ranked prospect in the class to choose the Trojans. Next season he’ll be joining a solid class of four-star center Kijani Wright and four-star small forward Oziyah Sellers.
