The 2019 NFL Draft is coming up, which means that The Game Haus will be doing draft profiles for every team. Each NFL team will be looked at heading into this year’s draft including what their needs are and who they could be targeting. The Los Angeles Rams will be the 27th team evaluated

Summary

The Rams had an excellent season under Sean McVay, as they reached the Super Bowl. They had a 13-3 regular season record as well and have set themselves up to be contenders for years to come.

Los Angeles may have played in a low-scoring Super Bowl, but they had the second-best offense in the NFL, which scored 32.9 points per game. Their 287.7 passing yards per game ranked fifth in the league, as Jared Goff was able to pass for 4,688 yards. He had a few very good receivers in Brandin Cooks, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, but Woods led the team in receiving yards with 1,219. The rushing offense averaged 139.4 yards per game. Todd Gurley was able to rush for 1,251 yards, despite missing two games. The offensive line was one of the best in football to help lead the way. Guard Rodger Saffold and backup running back C.J. Anderson were lost in free agency, but most of the core offense is still in Los Angeles.

The defense gave up 24 points per game, which was below the league average. They were very strong up front with Ndamukong Suh, Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald. Donald was a monster with 20.5 sacks on the year. Dante Fowler was acquired before the trade deadline to give the Rams a solid outside linebacker. Mark Barron and Corey Littleton played decently at the inside linebacker positions. Even though they had solid secondary players in Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, John Johnson and Lamarcus Joyner, they didn’t always play up to their potential. Suh is still a free agent, while Joyner and Barron have already signed with new teams. Clay Matthews was brought in to provide another pass rusher for the team and Eric Weddle was signed to form a good safety combo between him and Johnson.

The Rams have seven picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

First Round (one pick): No. 29

Third Round (two picks): No. 94, No. 99

Fourth Round (one pick): No. 133

Fifth Round (one pick): No. 169

Sixth Round (one pick): No. 203

Seventh Round (one pick): No. 251

Team Needs

Guard/Center- Saffold is gone and John Sullivan wasn’t the greatest center in the league. Drafting an interior lineman in the draft should allow their offensive line to remain strong.

Edge Rusher- Matthews and Fowler will make a good combo, but Matthews is aging and they’ll need some depth.

Defensive Tackle- With Suh gone, they need to find a replacement to help eat up blockers so Donald have another great season.

Linebacker- Barron is gone and Littleton is average at best. An inside linebacker should be selected in the draft at some point.

Cornerback- Talib is aging, while Peters had a down year. They’ll need to be improved at the position this year or they need to be replaced.

2019 NFL Draft Targets

First Round:

Pick No. 29: Dexter Lawrence, Defensive Tackle, Clemson

Lawrence could be drafted a little higher than this, but if he falls to the Rams, they need to select him. He can take over for Suh to help take blockers off of Donald, which will make the defense better. Lawrence has a big body and has good athleticism for his size, which could make him and Donald a good tandem.

Third Round: 

Pick No. 94: Tre Lemar, Linebacker, Clemson

The Rams can get a developmental linebacker in the third round to groom. Lemar has been a huge part of the Clemson defense over the last few seasons and has experience cleaning up plays that his dominant defensive line left for him. He presents good value in the third round and could be a starter in a few years.

Pick No. 99: Myles Gaskin, Running Back, Washington

Anderson is no longer with the team, which means they need a new backup running back. Gurley has been injured a few times before and last year Anderson showed what value a good backup can bring a team, as they relied on him in the last few weeks of the season and the playoffs. Gaskin is a polished running back who has racked up the yards for Washington over the last several seasons.
