Patrick Corbin, the top pitcher on the free agent market agreed to terms today with the Washington Nationals. The deal is for six years worth $140 million. The deal is pending a physical.
Last year Corbin was named to the All-Star team, finished fifth in the Cy Young voting and posted the best season of his career. He went 11-7 with a 3.15 ERA and struck out 246 batters. He set career highs in strikeouts, WHIP, WAR and shutouts. The lefty will help fortify a rotation with Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg.
The Arizona Diamondbacks offered Corbin a qualifying offer, so the Nationals will forfeit a second round pick. Washington has been one of the busiest teams this offseason, as they have not waited for superstar Bryce Harper to make a decision.
