Missi played just one season of college basketball, but vastly outperformed his recruiting rating. Now he is in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As a four-star recruit from California, Missi signed with Baylor out of high school. He started for the Bears playing 22.9 minutes per game. Missi averaged 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. He helped Baylor reach the NCAA Tournament, but they lost in the second round.
Following the NCAA Tournament exit, Missi declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a first round pick.
Yves Missi Strengths
Missi is a great athlete for a big man. He can run the floor well and make an impact in transition. Missi leaps high, which helps him finish at the rim and also protect the rim on the other side of the floor. Pair his athleticism with a good motor and Missi can do all the dirty work a team needs as well.
He has shown to be a good defender. Missi uses his length well to guard his man and can even hold up slightly on the perimeter. To go with his solid defense, he also showed good rim protection in college. His athleticism helps him here, but he can continue to work on his timing to become even more of an impact player.
It might look like Missi isn’t the greatest rebounder because he averaged 5.6 per game, but that was in about 22.9 minutes played per game. He averaged around 10 per 40 minutes. Missi uses his athleticism to high point the ball and is strong enough to hold onto it. More work on boxing out can help him be an even better rebounder.
Yves Missi Weaknesses
Missi will not stretch the floor with his shooting. He did not attempt or make a 3-point shot last season. Missi was also limited from the mid-range. He will need to work in the paint to score. In addition to his lack of shooting from deep, Missi was also a bad free-throw shooter.
His passing can also improve. Missi had more turnovers than assists last season. He can sometimes throw the ball away, especially when confronted with pressure or double teams. Playing with patience and poise will be something Missi has to learn.
Right now, Missi can finish plays with dunks, but needs to work on his post moves. That includes improving his footwork and adding more post moves to his game. His offensive game will be limited until he can score in the post consistently.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
