A lot of players are waiting on My Hero Ultra Rumble Crossplay. Connecting the various platforms increases the number of players, improving upon matchmaking. Cross-progression will allow for more versatility in play. But there’s an issue with cross play: Mouse and Keyboard controls exist.
Mouse and Keyboard is FAR Superior to Controller
The game on PC is almost a completely different experience due to mouse and keyboard controls. This makes multiple characters far stronger on PC than they are on console. For example, Bakugou is still very much a top tier character on PC, with one of the highest skill expressions in the game.
This is because Mouse and Keyboard allows for far superior aim control. Controller provides aim assist, but the skill expression and precision of the mouse controls really can’t be compared with controller.
Check out the gameplay linked below. Imagine a console player trying to keep up with this level of mechanics and skill — it really wouldn’t be very fair.
Granted, not every player is as great as the rank 1 My Hero Player on PC. But the average skill level is definitely far higher than on console, with the higher ranks becoming more and more populated with players who excel at aiming.
Cementoss is another character who benefits greatly from the mouse and keyboard controls. He has mobility, damage, and support utility. On console, he struggles because players cannot control his cement blocks well enough — lacking the control and accuracy to maximize the pick. But on PC, the mouse’s versatility and pin point accuracy allow him to snipe enemies from afar, alongside maneuver around the map incredibly well.
Ranked Compromised
If My Hero Ultra Rumble crossplay is implemented without any limitations, thereby allowed in ranked play, the mode may become compromised. On a casual basis, cross progression and play isn’t a big deal. In fact, it’ll likely be great for the game’s longevity.
But Battle Royals are very competitive by nature, with many even having an Esport surrounding them. Of course, My Hero Ultra Rumble is still a far way off from reaching an esports level of competition. But if Crossplay is implemented, it’ll become a lot more difficult to tell how good someone is. PC players will just have an advantage, since they’d be playing against controller players. Controller players will find themselves having to work extra hard to keep up with even the average mouse and keyboard player.
Hacking on PC
Steam players have far more hackers than the other platforms. This is due to PC being simply easier to hack, resulting in some blatantly visible issues when it comes to cross platform play. Hopefully the developers address the cheating before it becomes even more rampant. Considering they’ve been rather quick to fix other game breaking bugs, expectations and hopes are definitely high.
In Conclusion
There are pros and cons of implementing Crossplay for My Hero Ultra Rumble. If it’s implemented on a casual basis, thereby not allowing for ranked play across platforms, it would be very welcome. Another option would be to have separate game modes for crossplay.
A great decision could also be a controller only mode, where even PC players are forced to use a controller. Or the developers could try having a console only crossplay for My Hero Ultra Rumble. But if they just add crossplay haphazardly, without consideration for fair play, it will undoubtably become an issue in the future.
